They didn't make an elaborate set - it was all at Universal Studios in LA. The plane crash, for example, is left over from Spielberg's War of the Worlds. You pass through all of that area on the little train tour you can take.

Part of the Last Angel/Love song PV was shot at FOX Studios. If you watch the TV show Bones, you'll recognize the "Royal Diner" from there.

OMG I KNEW IT! I knew I saw that plane crash area somewhere! Just like I thought, it's the set for War of the Worlds. You can see the plane wreckage in the background!
