Wow, the sales numbers are impressive as always. I've watched the tour, it's pretty Namie-like I've been following Namie more actively for like 3 years and after watching her last 3 tours I have been always impressed that by relatively simple stage design she manages to make it really dynamic. Everything is perfectly to-the-point, the lighting, choreography. I do have an impression her dancers are better than those of Ayu but that may be because of different choreographies they make. Also, I don't know but I do have the feeling her voice is really heavily affected by electronics... don't have comparison to previous lives but it really seems strong to me. Anyway, I liked only the 1st costume the show was pretty fun to watch Her lives are perfect to put in the background

Meh, I'm not feeling either of the new songs. They're too similar to the last couple of singles, I wish she would do something adventurous, the edm sound really isn't 'en vogue' anymore.

I can definitely agree about Ayu's lives over the last 10 years. There's always her inevitable soap opera on stage during a song like Days or GREEN. And it doesn't look any better year after year. Just like some horrible melodramatic high school-esque interpretive dance.

That I can't tell.
I haven't watched an Ayu live for centuries... it's so distracting with her sharing the spotlight with her dancers and background vocalists.

And Beni, well, who is she again? lol

But yeah, Namie's concerts have all been the same for the past... I don't know good 10 years?

LIVE STYLE 2016-2017 is Namie's fifth consecutive no.1 on DVD & blu-ray chart and a new record for a solo artist!

Has anyone been to see her live and does anyone know if her vocals are fixed much for DVDs like Ayu? Just wondering because in her latest concert it seemed like she had unlimited stamina and her voice never faltered, which is really impressive if it's all real.

I went her BEST FICTION TOUR 2008 in Tokyo and she sounded exactly the same live as in her DVDs...

In Ayu's case they definitely auto tune it because in the past few years she has sounded very robotic on some DVDs. Not sure what else they do, she might rerecord it as well.

I finally got around to watching the tour -- I'm not a stan for her tours, so there might be some comparisons to past tours that I'm getting wrong. But some general impressions -- it's kind of Namie's signature to look bored, but I've always thought in concerts she comes to life a bit more. There were some songs here where that was true, but I felt like she looked more bored than normal (but hey, after like 100 shows, maybe she WAS).

Her upper body dance moves are so awkward and lazy looking, whereas her legs move like whoa (even in those heels), and it creates a weird image sometimes. Maybe it's the smaller stage than in arena tours and there's less to focus on than just close-ups of her, but I haven't noticed this as much in the past.

The vocals sounded super processed. I'm not sure if it's editing, or if she was lip syncing to a tour track, or maybe nothing at all? Something just looked and sounded off...she didn't have enough tension in her face/throat at times, which makes me think lip syncing. But her English is also awful, so I could just be thrown off by the fact that her mouth is making some odd movements/shapes. And it was too smooth, despite some of her movements. Typically when singers dance a lot, to keep singing smoothly, you'll see them keeping their neck very straight -- that's the key to having movement not impact your vocals, but I didn't necessarily notice that with her.

I had tried to get tickets when I went to TA 2016, but wasn't able to -- seeing this, I'm less disappointed, but I also have no doubt that it would have been 100 times more fun in person to have the experience. It's definitely a high-energy show, and it gave me some appreciation for her more recent singles that I haven't really liked.

^Hmm she was always like that and her signature is to dance and sing really well at the same time. It may looks weird since only a very few performer are able to actual be good at that.
And her vocals are sometimes really bland (she has great moments though) to be edited. I don't think she is lip-synching tbqh - she is to proud for that. She even throws in ad-libs if she feels like it.

That said, her last few shows kinda bore me too - at least to some extend. I also noticed that she sounds boring during ballads since the DOME Tour, therefore I really enjoy Black Make Up live.

One of my absolute favorite PVs is Big Boys Cry. Namie actually shows so much character during that PV, and I've never forgotten how much that PV made me smile.

But yeah, I think Namie is talented, just that her stage and performance are usually nowhere near the excitement of Koda's performances. And I've always found it interesting how much people cheer during Namie's performances. Every other song, people are like, "OH MY GOD! IT'S MY FAVORITE SONG!" And I'm over here like, "I thought... the... other one was...? Oookay! We like this one now!" Cannot deny that Namie has quite a few more tracks in her discography that people look forward to seeing her do live than other artists.

Hopefully I'll watch LS 16-17 in the next couple days. I have to pull out my projector because what's the point in watching Namie on a 22" monitor or 40" television when you can have a 100" screen of Namie?!

I love these live video collections.
I still don't have a Namie live in my collection. I have to get on that.
