Saying that Namie wants to "erase herself from history" is a bit of a stretch imo lol.

She literally did a gazillion interviews and documentaries right before her retirement so that she and her legacy can be immortalised. All her music videos + music being on Apple Music, and then a year later on Spotify... I really don't think that's trying to erase herself from history. If anything, she knows her impact and is happy to have it live on.

I have no doubts about her throat problems but maybe it was unsustainable after those 88+ dates tours?) hm

weel she toured a few more years (which she could have stopped) or simple recover for a few years.
I know, her vision of music is for the live stage, not the record - but she could have gone a few years like Utada did.
But anyways - She left some of the best JPop songs history starting with the Supermonkeys and closing with Finally, most of these songs I will still cherish in 10, 20 ,30 ...years

Namie should come back because she can save Japan's music industry / economic after covid-19.

Something just popped up on Namie's Spotify page...

https://open.spotify.com/track/59yRo...QdqufdfSXRBE2A

I wonder what this is about. Probably a mistake.

I freaked out for a second. Imagine a new single called Cosmica. It screams Dr., Defend love, and Supernatural love for me.

Yeah I can't find anything on the label either.

Doesn't help that there's apparently a Swedish rock band by the same name

One thing for sure is she said in an interview in 2012 she’d like to work as a producer in the future when she retired, so maybe we’ll eventually get so see some interesting Namie produced artists.

yeah, but neither explains this at all. I also doubt it is a mistake somehow.

Both music services making the same mistake seems somehow unlikely, but I also don't wanna get my hopes up.

I just cannot imagine Namie coming back from retirement. She seems like the kind of person who makes a decision and then doesn't go back on it.

Random, but Ai Otsuka was scootering through (what I assume to be) an Avex office and you can see Namie's posters up on display among others haha.

When music is distributed to platforms such as spotify, Apple Music etc, the way it generally works is the artist or label will hand it off to the distribution company and they will send or get the track(s) uploaded to all the various platforms at the same time. If it is a mistake, this would explain why it occur on multiple platforms.

^ nah not really . Apple Music and Spotify work different, they even have a different catalogue overall (with miliyah being on Spotify completely but only selective on apple). This is definitely not a mishap, but I wanna know what’s behind it.

I really doubt if Namie came back, in any way, it would be like this. I’m sure it would be heavily promoted many months in advance.
Also, you can hear a preview on Apple Music and it sounds so... idk how to say it, amateurish (?)

I guess it depends on their instructions to the distribution provider. You can choose which channels you want to distribute to with each release, but as far as I was able to see, most of Namie’s material, excluding collaborations and maybe a few other tracks are on both Spotify and Apple Music, which leads me to think that both channels are approved for distribution by default unless instructed otherwise. I don’t have Apple Music subscription and rarely use Spotify, I have her stuff from cd or iTunes so maybe there’s something I’ve missed. I want to know what’s going on too. If it is not a mistake we should hopefully get some kind of explanation soon.

As much as I wish this was new material by her she appears to be a pretty resolute person. She realized that she had built up a massive fan base and really cranked up the media output leading up to her retirement (even before it was announced imo). Honestly, if she just opened up an Instagram page where she took random puppy and dessert pictures that would make me happy

Lord knows I'm still waiting on that "To be Continued" from "Dr." though
