its pretty common4japanese 2call artists by their lastname,,, like, obviously ppl would instantly recognise "ayu" as referrin2 "hamasaki" or "hama ayu" or whatever, but wit da others most ppl would say amuro, nakasima, utada etc...

Na-mi-e, the right pronounciation. Whenever it's Japanese I'll try to pronounce in the correct way. Just like Hikki's name... Utada Hikaru --> do you call Utada Hika'l'u or Hika"r"u??

Actually, on her california interview, they asked her "is it oo-tada or you-tada?" and she said "either way is fine, I say oo-tada because it sounds more Japanese".

so there's no reason to be annoyed. :/

^I know a lot of people at my school who are from foreign countries and their names are buthered on accident all the time. So I do think there is something to be annoyed of. I guess it depends on the person.

But if someone is from a foreign country, they have to think that their name is going to be pronounced wrong. My name is "Amber", so if I moved to Japan I'd probably get a thousand variations:

"Amabaru"
"amubara"
"Amubaru"
"Amabara"

etc etc..

You can't expect foreigners to pronounce your name correctly, and if they do, props to them~

So does that make it correct in Japanese? If it does, then sorry my bad. If it isn't, then well, actually I don't care if Hikki minds or not, I was just using her name as an example (same goes for names like Uehara etc)

I can understand if people can't pronounce Chinese or Korean because the words are prounounced very differently from what they're used to. Nah-mee-eh isn't difficult for English-speakers to pronounce at all. I don't mean that people ought to be put to death for thinking it's pronounced Nah-mee, since they most likely haven't tried learning Japanese. It's just a pet peeve
