let's use A BEST sales as an example.. about 4.3 million copies sold in Japan and 5 million copies worldwide... that means only 0.7 mil copies being sold outside japan. Remind that the cd sales were still quite good during 2001..

now back to 2007.. i dun really think A BEST 2 would be sold over 0.8 mil copies outside Japan rite at this moment... it would be lucky if 200K being sold in asia during these two weeks..

The slip is quite drastic, but I think indeed, the cost could possibly have been one factor. One of the most expensive CDs released on the market till date! I think people are probably burning or downloading it off illegally (but well, that seems to apply to all artistes) Nevertheless, these are truly fantastic figures for a SOLO female artiste! And not to mention each of these songs are truly GEMS!

Lets not look at individual sales and celebrate the fact that A BEST 2 sold 1.14 Million copies!

And I wouldn't worry about the drop to #8 today.. There were tons of new releases in front of her including Koda Kumi, Mika Nakashima, Mr Children, etc. Even Exile went down to #5.. This always happens on a week when there's tons of new releases but I believe that it'll likely climb higher soon especially with the two tv lives tomorrow

Err ... i have neverread it sold 5 million worldwide ... i have heard it sold 6 million world wide. and Ayu's popularity has really grown since then ... so even if nearly 1 million [or 2] was sold worldwide for A BEST i think many more would be sold now! and anyway, it was just realesed in more countries@

Sales have dropped alot since the early 00's due to illegal downloading getting very popular! She's done well to say it's 2007 =]

but u need to realize that back then when a best was released, she didnt have as much fan in asia compared to now.. a lot of people outside japan only started to listen to her after teh release of a best (u can search for some threads here that prove that)..n i know that if ayu were to hold an asia tour back then, i doubt that the tickets would be selling as hot as it has now.. so yea, i think her oversea's sales contribute a lot! like it matters

One of their songs from their latest 'HOME' album is pretty good. It's called 'Shirushi'.
