Well, I do have one of Hikaru's Album called Ultra Blue or something like that.. The 6th song (forgotten ) was my favorite though..

Now, I heard that Utada's -Flavor of Life- Ballad version is nice so I am searching for it.. Note that I am NOT requesting..

Well, same as FuNsTyLe, I like Utada Hikaru too.. But Ayumi comes in first!

I'm a fan of Hikki too , but I don't personally feel she was at her best on Utada United 2006. I think the concert was great , I liked the setlist & the stage was one of the best I've seen. but I found Hikki sounding very strained & shrill & unpleasant , especially the chorus of 'Be My last' sounded bad to me.

Well stop comparing stage sets, outfits, CM's, sales and promotion... I was talking about voice Off course I know Ayu is much more of a superstar than Hikki..But when it comes to voice, Utada beats her by far! And btw..Ayu's vibrato really annoys me, because it doesnt sound natural, if you watch her older performances from around 2001 and earlier, she did not have any vibrato, and it sounds better then.
It doesn't come natural, and in some performances, it's actually very annoying

^ That seems your opinion from what the other members have voiced. Some do not like Hikki's vocals. I for one tend to get sick of hearing her vocals after listening to them for long. I like her vibrato because it creates a dramatic ending but not everyone agrees.

I think Utada is not better than Ayumi in terms of vocals, and I'm not judging by just one performance.

Utada sounded horribly strained on Utada United, and she did so even after they mastered the sound for the DVD... hearing her voice on the DVD, I'm scared to think how did she sound for real...

Ayumi recieved vocal training, three months streight, she came back and did lives, and even though she had squeeky voice, she never gasped for air or went of key trying to hit high notes. She sang sort of on the same note all the time at first, but as years went by, her voice gained deepness.

I don't hear pretty much any kind of developement in Hikki's voice, over the years. The way she sounded in Automatic, she sounds the same way in Flavor of Life, except maybe a bit more grown up. When she was doing lives for FoL, again, she sounded strained, and even singing parts of the song that seemed easy to sing, she seemed to have trouble with them.

Ayu has been doing tons of lives throughout her career, both TV lives as well as tours, that's how she practiced her voice. I couldn't see Utada being nearly as active as Ayumi was. It seems to me Utada just started singing without much practicing, her singing sounded good at the very beginning so she (or anyone else that was around, working on her records) didn't feel that she needs much specific training. The best proof is how quickly she got worn off doing UU06. I can't remember myself hearing Ayu strained just becouse of singing a lot (the off-key CDL had its reason).

It's not that I don't like Utada, I just think Ayumi is technically a better vocalist, even if Utada's voice sounds nicer (at least on studio tracks).

As much as I love Ayu, she isnt as consistant as Hikaru in terms of vocal performances. Even in certain studio recorded songs, Ayu's vocals seem restricted and could be A LOT better.

I love this song so much! I don't think Hikki's voice is better than Ayu's, just different. Hikki's is more steady...if that makes sense. Ayu's changes more with her lyrics. But they are both great.

Hikki's biggest problem - she has a problem with breathing. It's one thing to breath like that when singing and dancing at the same time, but standing there and just singing while breathing like she's just run a mile isn't exactly what is expected of a good singer. It shows her lack of diaphragm support.

And singers can gain vibratos as they gain more control or better control of their voice. Many beginning singers doesn't have vibratos, but can gain one with more training and practice.

Hikki's my 2nd BEST artist EVER. ♥

I LOVE her style (specially UTADA's Rn'b one =3), I LOVE her voice, I LOVE her English (You Make Me Want to be a Man ♥), I LOVE her songs (Flavor of Life, DAMN GOOOOD deserves the #1 Single of the Year *0*)
I LOVE her as an artist, I LOVE her personality, I LOVE her lives (I was like "ZOMG" while watching the UTADA UNITED! 2006 ♥)
I LOVE when they show her laughing with Ayu, I LOVE her reaction when the other guest was singing travelin' during last Hey!x3!

Agree with you, you're 100% right!

But I think she makes a lot of efforts to make her performance sounds perfect, that's maybe the reason of breathing problem, 'cause even during ballads she has this problem...
But it doesn't really bother me =)

oh I love it when they show ayu and utada together in the music station shows. They should go on tv shows together more It would be so awesome if they collaborate together in a song with both of them composing and writing the lyrics that would be a dream come true

Eh, i think Hikki's live perfromances tend to be pretty boring, although Ayu's vocals have been horrible lately. Kuu and Ayaka are the best live female singers in Japam right now imo.

hm. never liked hikki's voice or anyone else's besides ayu's. for some reason, the sound of it just hits the deepest part of my heart.

but c'mon, everyone has their ways of singing and singers have and like certain ways of singing. i mean, what if everyone sounded like mariah carey? that'll be boring. everyone's freakin good in their own way.

I like to listen to lives more than anything xD and hikki is one that really strike me down with her superb live vocals.

And no I wouldn't love to compare becos ayu and utada have like the most different kind of voice, style and music ever but, I have to really agree that ayu's live vocals are not on par with hikki's =) don't take it as an offence if you disagree yea =D

i agree that utada has a better vocal than ayumi.. but utada lacks stage appeal, lacks a pretty face (look), lack charisma, lacks the full package of a superstar (can dance and sing). Whereas ayumi has the above things i mentioned.. different artistes/singers are different cant compare..

She has said on many interviews that she only cares about the music. Appearances and such are to little concern.

She said music has always been the best way to express herself, that's why she loves EMI b/c they don't pressure her into appearances and dancing.

Have you seen Hikki's dancing XDDD.!?

^No. She doesn't dance AFAIK. But she has this....err, small-steps 'movement' when singing XD

She has the best vocal, studio-wise. But not in her live performance. :<

Best vocals....I think I could list some. Namie is one, and probably Kuu (minus random additional whoa whoa yeah yeah yeah song for youuuu~) because they sing and dance at the same time. I respect that a lot.

And probably...SHIINA RINGO hands down. <3

Personally if we want to give the award to the best vocalist someone like Hitomi Shimatani or Kanon would win it. Utada's vocals are rather good but they irk me sometimes and I somehow wonder why so many people are crazy over her.
