Why not Korea?

I was watching a clip of Namie performing in Seoul during her So Crazy tour a few years ago, and i was wondering why Ayu isn't having a concert there as a part of her Asia tour. I've heard explanations for why she isn't going to Beijing and Singapore, but I've never seen anyone even mention the possibility of her going to Korea. Why is that? I know Korea's music industry is going through a huge decline, but Korea is also an important center of modern pop culture...excuse my rambling lol.

I also wonder why Korea wasn't included in her Asia tour. She is indeed quite popular there. My main guess is that she probably didn't have time? I mean, 90 % + of the shows in her Asia tour is in Japan. She probably doesn't have the time & energy to stop in Korea. You know Ayu , she spent like a week shopping and sightseeing in Taipei and Hong Kong. Who knows what she might do in Shanghai?

I don't think she's popular in Korea at all. I think Koda Kumi is much more popular in Korea, especially at the moment

I don't think she's very popular there either. And what I hear every time about K-Pop is R&B/hip-hop/rap. But on this point, i'm not sure.

Not sure either if she's THAT popular in Korea =/

They were just few fans when she arrived at the airport for the Asia Song Festival '04... A lot of medias, but few fans if I remember...

I've heard that Ayu was on a Korean game show once, and that she's promoted a lot there. I'm sure she would've been able to sell all the tickets, just maybe not intwo hours like in Taiwan.

I'm not sure...I never saw the show, my friend did, and she recognized ayu by a picture so It was either her or someone who looked a lot like her.

As for Beijing and Singapore, they're too busy preparing for the olympics in Beijing and don't have anywhere big enough in Singapore. Those are what I've heard at least. (from wiki )

I think the reason she didn't go to Korea is because she's not popular in Korea. I know that her albums don't even appear in the monthly International Album Charts in Korea.

It's a bit strange the way Ayus so popular in Taiwan and China, but not in Korea. I guess it because of her musical style; that would also explain why Namie seems to be so popular there.

Well Mika is one of the most popular female Jpop artists in Korea and I don't think her musical style is similar to Kpop's like Namie or Kuu, but I guess it could be Mika's ballads that make her popular in Korea...

IIRC, didn't Mika become popular there after one of her songs was used for a drama's theme song? Either that or it was covered by a Kpop star and was really popular...maybe both, lol.

It was "Yuki no Hana". And a Kpop singer made a Korean cover of the song and it was used in a Korean drama.

But if I remember correctly, the drama only started to air in late 2004. "LOVE" was released in January 2004 (in Korea) and it still did pretty well. (16,000 in 2.5 months)

EDIT: Back to Ayu, "Memorial address" sold 1,224 in June 2004. (It went out of the TOP 20 in July).

If earlier reports of certain concert halls not willing to host her concert, then perhaps the same went for Korea. Probably had something to do with the cost being too high or the concert being much too high maintenance.
