Music Recommendations?

Unsure if there's a thread similar to this or not but since there's a few world music fans here I thought I'd post....

It's probably a bit early to be posting yet, but I'm going back to Paris in December. Last time I was there I went to the Virgin Megastore which I was soooooo impressed by! The HMV in my city is totally crap, and I was totally amazed by the amount of CDs the Paris Virgin had. I had a good look around - attempted to look for one of Emilie Simon's albums, but I couldn't find any. Unsure if maybe she isn't that popular or if I was just looking in the wrong place. In the end after a while of deciding what to buy I went for Tokio Hotel's Durch Den Monsun single (which months after buying it, I have only just got into lol). Anyway with the amount of CDs they have I want to do some serious buying!

So I was wondering does anyone have any recommedations of CDs which I buy there? They don't have to be French - just anything which I can't get in the UK. I'm quite weird about trying new music sometimes, so it would help if when recommending an artist or band, you can post some album covers, pics, reviews, videos etc, or point me in the direction of where I can get these. (Just a name of a band prob won't make me check em out lol, but an amazing review will!). I know it's a while off yet, but I wanna research what I'll be buying.

^Oh yeah, meant to mention what types of music I like lol. Mainly pop, but I like rock and etheral sounding music. But I'll consider anything if it sounds good enough - or has a cool cover lol!

hmmm ... well, I can defo recommend some R&B. NIVEA! You can sometimes find her stuff in the UK, but, really it's quite hard. HMV had to "special order" it for me

anyway, I'd say her best album is "Complicated". It has some beautiful ballads, "club bangas" and is just a really well put CD! I hope that's good enough LOL

Bjork. Seriously. My 'Greatest Hit's' came from the Virgin on the Champs Elise ... Sting was there when I went, and I didn't care

*Bastardises the French language and ignores all accents*

And sora ... sifow is J-only. Her CD's don't even make it to Hokkaido, let alone Paris.

Used to quite like David Guetta's new song, but think I heard it too many times now. Used to own Nivea's album actually (my HMV actually stocked it *gasp*). I already have Anna's album, which I actually wasn't that impressed with - though I did like Lovin' You.

Meant to mention my fave artists, if that's any use, who are Hikaru, Ayumi, Mika, Hyde & L'Arc~en~Ciel.

Since you'll b in Paris in December, I'd get some french music.
You can get "Le Jeu De 7 Erreurs" by Élodie Frégé, it's basically a pop/folk album. You can youtube songs like "Si Je Reste (Un Peu)" or "La Ceinture" from that album, I adore them. But try to stay away from her self titled album, cause even she doesn't like it, it's bubblegum pop and songsound similar (with some exceptions)

Other option is buying Julien Doré's single "Moi Lolita", a cover of the Alizée song. Julien transforms the pop song into rougher styles, while mantaining the same lyrics, yeah, a man singing that? sure, it works, lovely stuff.

Emmanuel Moire! His debut album "(Là) Où Je Pars" is the most beautiful pop album released recently. Search on youtube for his songs "Le Sourire", the title track and "Ca Me Fait Du Bien". The cover picture is amzing by the way... if you like green, that is

You can also choose other albums not necessarily in french, like "Irgendwie Held" by Baschi, a swiss singer who sings pop but heavily influenced by rock (you might find him there, who knows?) or Tizian Ferro's "Nessuno È Solo", a pop album with many great songs, he's italian by the way.

By that time, PJ Harvey's "White Chalk" is gonne be already released, this album is so ethereal, so you will like it I suppose, but it's also very dark, so if you can, check youtube for a live version of "The Mountain" which will take your breath away by the end

Those are a few to get you started

Robyn -- similar to Gwen Stefani, but waaaay funkier! i recommend her latest album: "Robyn" -- and from that album tracks like "Be Mine" (the most gorgeous song ever!), "Crash and Burn Girl" and "Konichiwa B*****s"
also her single "with every heartbeat" is very good!

Najoua Belyzel -- a brilliant French singer. very cute pop

t.A.T.u. -- seriously, ignore all the controversy -- they make brilliant euro-pop
