Actually, I would be rather surprised if Kingdom did not sell well. Then Avex would be headdesking and wondering what they did wrong. To be honest, Ayu's selling in albums seems to be around 500-600K, which is still good, but she's past her peak.

Now Love Piece's sales, on the other hand, is rather disappointing.

ai's album sales dropped the most...and it seems like the sales decrease between secret and guilty has the least drop in sales compared to ayu's previous studio album sales. I wonder how much ayu's next single will sell. She's been selling less than koda...and koda single sales are getting lower so hopefully ayu's won't be too low.

oh about asia tour dvd and the new remix albums, they are doing well on cdjapan and hmv charts =D can't wait till march!

What makes Ayu be the #1 is that eventhough her sales are not as much as before (nobody does nowadays...) the other rise and fall more than her, she still estable! Thats good

Guys, I think it's pretty clear that Kingdom will sell well. And of course, surpass GUILTY.

GUILTY 1st day index #: 39,292
Kingdom 1st day index #: 84,116

Major difference!

^ yeah it sure is. At first i thought ayu's 1st day index was quite high but look at koda's; O.O ... I wonder when ayu will release her next single...best if it has more content in it; 3 or 4A etc.

as much as I'd love a 3A single I am afraid she will never do it again, as it's been almost 5 years since "&".But then again I could never imagine a new ayu-mix being released XD

Yeah lately imo Ayu's singles have become more and more dry. There's little extra material in them (from the album), making them not so appealing to casual fans. I wish she'd go back to adding a few remixes per single and also with more than 2 tracks.

Looking at artists who's popularity fell pretty quick like ai and BoA it would be funny to not say ayu's selling high.

ayu's running out of cards to play to keep herself at the top...i mean, she already played the BEST cards, and now the ayu-mi-x cards, and of course, new albums and singles are a given. what else can she do at this point but keep trying? sometime soon, she'll lose her #1 streak in singles, too... it's just the truth. but it doesn't matter!! her concerts still SELL OUT and she's still popular. it's just that her mega era is winding down...kind of like matsutoya yumi. matsutoya-san can't really sell 1 million or even get #1 anymore, but it's still a well-known fact that she's a mogul in the japanese music industry. i think the same will go for ayu in the coming future. she'll still be considered a queen of jpop for sure.

^ That's very true. However she could still garner more fans through different ways if she was willing to work and got the means to. Like she could start acting in doramas or try and obtain new endorsements. Right now she's constantly stuck with Panasonic and she should try and experiment a little. Otherwise she'll end up selling only to her current fanbase.

I'm not saying that it will skyrocket her popularity since she's already a well known face but it might attract a certain group of new fans.

^That's true. I think at this point in her career, she's free to take more risks since (I hate to say it, but...) she's on a downward slope in popularity, anyway. I was pleasantly suprised to find that she returned to a darker/rock-edge sound with the GUILTY album...so it'll be interesting to see what she does next. I'm not disappointed in her in the least. I'm actually more proud of her now than ever. People put a lot of weight and worth in setting/breaking records, being #1, and selling millions. Well...with Ayu, I feel like the issue is kind of "been there, done that." She's already achieved all those things, and now she's still going strong. She's got lasting power, our Ayu. And the fact that she's still putting forth so much effort and passion in her career after losing her hearing in her left ear and everything...it motivates me as a person to do the same thing when I face adversity.

^Not at all!! I think she's got a good 10 years left in her! ^_^ It's just that I don't think we'll be seeing sales like Duty and A BEST anytime soon...if ever again. I think she's still doing wonderfully well, and GUILTY's sales totally prove that.

I agree. At this stage she should try new things and venture on new areas.

I think the whole thing is overrated a bit.

Look at ai, her popularity flopped down in a minute since her best album (well or perhaps her 2nd studio album) to now and she's a singer like 3-4 years? no way she's going to stop soon.

So why ayu with a pretty consistent popularity now (the difference between last year's Secret album to GUILTY will be less than 100,000) should feel threatened? Her sales are pretty well, not decreasing too much, her popularity kinda remain the same.
The tour are selling out pretty quickly, she's going on an actual ASIA TOUR, ayu is far from being in trouble imo.

On the other hand, her popularity won't sky rocket or go up without special "features".

^Yeah. Avex needs to put her on some serious promotional craziness. Nothing too drastic like 5 singles in 5 weeks or anything...I think they're trying to avoid any big risks that could pose an end to her #1 streak.

Do you think they'll ever do any special project for her single-wise or album wise? It could be nice =P A BEST 2 one was good but she needs another one/some!
