If you keep them in a bookshelf, do the cases get scratched when you pull one out?

not for me, as long as you don't cramp them too tight, it's alright.
But i tend to keep my cd in their original plastic wrap so that i won't get marks on the case.

Can't say I've ever noticed that happening. (But I usually don't care about that.)

I have a whole bunch of the cases on one of the shelves on the entertainment center thingy (I wouldn't really call it a bookcase yet that's what it holds the most of...) then there's another shelf on the wall that I put up that has a bunch more. The actual cds are in a huge cd binder thing for slighty quicker access

Ditto. For my OS versions, the cases tend to scratch a bit. But, it's not noticable at all. Only if the booklet is out

I have a little folding table here next to the computer in the computer room for them, which is only temporary till I can set up a shelf for them in here. Although, my special edition Idina Menzel Album is on the table with them...

I put mine on a bookshelf, together with other cutesy ornaments, books and soft toys I use to decorate the shelf. It's a collection to show others when they come in my room. =D

I keep mine in a special CD traveling case. That way, when I'm going to take a ride in the car, I can just quickly grab the CDs and I'll have all of them to be able to listen to. ^^ Easier than lugging around plastic CD cases that can scratched in the glove box...... ^^;

Anyway, within the case, I organize them by artist, and then the CDs within that artist's section, I organize by the title of the CD...

I keep my CDs in "Benno" shelves from Ikea

You need to get shelves, that's the only way I know of that allows for irregularly sized cases.
