Well, I've always thought that people being gay in Japan was pretty erm...TABOO (amongst the public, at least). I guess I just never interpreted the lyrics about that haha

^actually the Japanese are pretty ok with homosexual stuff. In general anyway. No matter where you go you are always gonna great the stupid homophobic people who think its wrong. But mostly Japan is pretty down with it: just look at the amount yaoi and gay themed fan-service appears

The Japanese are okay with homosexual stuff so long as it's not all too public. Because Kumi's song isn't too blatantly homosexual, it was still able to become popular. And even if she included a line something like, "I'm gay and I love it when girls feel my cho-cha," she wouldn't receive as public of an outcry because she's a female. But gay males in Japan tend to avoid making a big deal of their sexual orientation, I think.
