haha...since when I've become so desperate to know every meaning behind a particular shot. To be honest, I have never been able to understand what's really going on in Ladies Night PV...
well so sometimes I believe, afterall these are all artistic production, it requires some blanks between the director and the audience, so that we could continue to have our imagination there, and get whatever implication we want. But, agree with some of you that the PV got really good materials (eye candy) but the director is just lacking some filming techniques or devices to articulate the whole idea fluently, or in other words more comprehensible from the audience point of view. I think the main theme for this video is obviously gay/lesbian-oriented. I think it's another way for Ayu to say that she acknowledges her gay/lesbian fans to be open-minded enough to do a subtle video with this theme. As well, as back in the late 40's, 50's, 60's sexuality was very hidden, but no doubt it was boiling behind close doors. Anyway, we have to be open-minded, and imaginative... to see this video in a different way, put yourself in that time frame of Shanghai, being a singer at a club who can't help who she falls in love with. Regardless of gender, it's more important how we feel towards that person. Lovely video! the city view at the beginning was breath-taking, I'm a sucker for vintage things. I wanna visit Shanghai so badly, hehe.. so I can feel like I'm in a Wong Kar Wai movie. |

Sigh. Imma just take the PV for what it is. After watching it through a few times, it's really not so bad.. even though the first time was like a big wtf.
Still, I think a lot of work and planning went into this PV even though it fell short from being great. Props to Ayu and her team. I think J-pop artists should have like.. Westerners edit and direct their videos to tell you the truth. I think all Asian PV's are very awkwardly filmed and edited. That's why I never bother to watch or download them. Kouki Tange though, really has done excellent work not just with Ayu, but other Japanese musicians.. His PV's contain little to no filler. |

Okay so I watched GREEN again, and I think it's growing on me... I kind of watched it rather "distracted" and when I didn't notice all the faults, I grew to appreciate it more

Ayu's dance with Midori would have probably been better if they had practiced more, I guess. Did anyone noticed that Midori had a "fierce fishmouth" thing going on when she danced with Ayu? She did look pretty hot when she was flirting with Ayu, but their dance had...no feeling at all.
Ayu was able to portray a lot of emotion during her dance in AT07's appear, so I thought she could've done better. Maybe she needs to continue dancing with a guy instead. So, for the live performance, I'm hoping there'll be the dance fan instead, without Midori as the lead. The walking part in the beginning was too "glamorous". Was Ayu looking for something? Or she couldn't balance in her high heels? 0_0 Even the dancers were doing it. Except their "glamour walk" looked pretty stiff compared to Ayu's. XD But the guys were pretty cute (though again, random). I was actually half-expecting to see the guys doing a sort of "glamour walk" in the streets too, good thing that didn't happen. Oh, and I just noticed that they were dancing in front of the other Ayu signboard I was looking for. WHOA MALE DANCERS COLOURED THEIR NAILS BLACK D: Does that mean anything? The backstage with the dancers, whoa. I think it's Zin who danced with Gomi, since I can only see short black hair peeping out from the back of the hat. Shuya was too busy putting a moustache on himself. Subaru smokes? T_T And is that Chisa (or one of the girls) smoking too? And I don't know about you guys, but Shuya looked more mysterious in front of that building than Midori during the whole PV.

Technically, they were still in the 40s at that time XD And besides, it seemed like they were purposely showing it. Maro fixing his hair, Zin putting his hand over his mouth, Ryoji actually checking out his nails (lol), the camera zooming into one of the other one's hands while fixing his coat. They just look so weird. XD

I liked it better than MW's PV, there was some improvement in this one. The only part that was really badly done was Ayu's 'acting' in the street scene at the start. After that, the emotional scenes were better, and were quite nicely done. I liked how in a little way people's real feelings were revealed in the club at night, and in the morning, they had to go back to hiding them again. Overall, I had expected it to be bad from the comments here, but I actually liked it.

I don't think the diva-walk is necessarily due to ayu, it appeared first in MW and this is the same director, which also gives instructions to ayu.
As all of the other girls are doing it too, I assume it's how he wants it to be.I find both this an MW refreshing, allthough right now I prefer MW. The costumes in this PV are absolutely great and so is the scenery and setting. As for the "gay" theme, had it not been for the two guys dancing I don'thtink I would've recognised it in that way specifically as crossdressing acting is very common in japan and the girl may as well portray an actual man. In any way it leaves a certain ambiguity which is common with most things ayu. I agree with Demure_Dusk, it's like the PV doesen't convey the feeling song too well, it's like it was put together with a more down played and mellow version of GREEN, not the current one. I don't think the plot got lost though, f.ex. the guys are dacing behind the stage, but ayu and the other lady/guy are dancing on an empty stage. IMO maybe to show it's not really happening, but maybe ayu's dream/wish. This goes well with the lyrics as well. So the guys dancing aren't random but rather to make a contrast and maybe further imply that ayu dacing with midori has indeed a "gay" side to it.The main reason why I like this a little less than MW (aside form MW being shot in paris haha) is that MW for sure had more hidden clues and was more subtle. Both PVs are good IMO, but not as commercial as many ayu videos and most JPop videos. Again echoing Demure_Dusk, it's much better than 99% of jpop videos out there and it's a good video for ayu as well. Last edited by *Petit*; 26th November 2008 at 09:08 AM. |

Glad that I didn't have any hope for the pv from the beginning, so I'm not disappointed. The pv is really a crappy one...

Also, I forgot who said it on this thread, but he/she is right. I wish she would have practice more for the dancing part. I don't really know what type of dancing before she sang, but obviously she was doing tango when she started to sing. That is a very bad tango. Gosh, I wish I didn't watch that much Dancing With The Stars or Strictly Come Dancing. Watching that dance is killing my eyes off... In the end I think ayu took half of the responsibility about the creativity of the pv. But the director should be blamed as well. I really hope ayu firing that damn guy in the future because 99% of his directed pvs suck all the time. Hope you understand that I'm not against ayu. Rather, I'm tired of seeing bad qual pvs..

Song arrangement and music:
5 stars!!! The music of the intro is soo.... ancient (and traditional). PV: 5 stars!!! I always like Chinese ancient culture. Setting, cameos, etc. Also I love the part of "barongsai" (lion show that performed by 2 or more ppl). And the costume... OMG!!! Couldn't anybody make it more gorgeus???? So CHINESE!!! esp the one in red. And her hair.... OMG!!! Beautiful! The dance is awesome as well. using fans... Maybe the part which I don't like is Midoring acted as a man!!! Sadly, she (Midoring) acted poorly!! About a girl who acted like a man, I think it's fine since I found many ancient Chinese film in which a woman acted as a man (Legend of white snake????) The other part which I don't really like is her hair color!!! Maybe she should change it to black to match the PV. Once again, I give 5 stars to it. And I do not understand why many complains about it? Could you just sit down and watch and stop complaining? Or you can make better one? Or you could bare to spend more money for better PV?
