I think Days is actually doing better than MW. Days has only 6 days, no pushing, and it can sell around 125K. MW had 7 days, with lots of pushing on weekend. If there wasn't that mirrorcle index on Sunday, I doubt it could sell over 140K at all on the first week.

For the first week of sales, I wouldn't say it's bad. Modest would be a better word. She's obviously lost some of that selling power she used to have but still #1 nonetheless.

MW wouldn't have sold over 100k if it hadn't had a full week and a bunch of gimmicks to inflate its sales over the weekend. Real Talk.

I am more satisfied with days/green than MW. MW is a remake, or whatever, instantly the sales were also supposedly low.

And yes, as peger said, if it wasn't for gimmicks they offered over the weekend, she might not get over 100k. But again, if it wasn't Ayumi, any kind of gimmicks wouldn't work to boost such a high sales over the last 2 days. Real Talk. Imagine if Ayu did that gimmicks thingie since her release day? well, I predicted MW would sell over 200k I suppose.

Plus, gimmicks are things newbie usually do to boost sales, even though some well-known artists such as Kuu for example still do that. So, I think, those who have sales (single) over 90k without much gimmicks (like stickers, postcards, etc), and I don't think 4 version is considered a gimmick, still considered doing pretty damn well.

well all I have left for ayu is that I want her to beat Matsuda Seiko 25 consecutive single thingy. After that I will happy at whatever position she gets on the oricon chart, since enjoying the music is much more important then the sales. Congrats on ayu for getting another no.1

You're not being too negative at all. I too thought it should be able to outsell MW, heck I thought this was going to sell 200k+, which she hasn't had one sell more than 200k since BLUE BIRD. Its still possible though as long as sales remain steady. People thought A COMPLETE would disappear off the chart after hitting 800k but it has had steady sales the past weeks and 850k is still possible.

Utada's Heart Station did not sell all that well... I cannot remember the figure, but I remember she did not get number 1. I mean the single, not album, and Prisoner of Love only sold 81,000 physical copies, but is one of the most downloaded songs.

Even KAT-TUN could only sell 250,000 physical copies of white xmas, maybe 100,000 less than usually.
The difference with Namie and Utada is that those releases had longevity. I can't remember the last time an Ayu release had good longevity. As for Kattun, a) the songs not that great and b) they've had a lot of scandals in the tabloids recently.

edit: sorry, I originally thought you were referring to heart place the album. In the case of the single, it was released not long before the album, so that explains the sales.

There is always a REASON for things ^^ obviously lol, there is really no point in arguing and the quality of the songs rarely reflects the sales, nowdays (sadly), if it was the other way around Hitomi Shimatani would be selling millions in 2005/6.

The fact is ~Ayu's sales are quite steady and unlike many other "more popular" female artists, Ayu can sell 100+ in the first week and even tough it might just be the fans buying her singles, that only means that Ayu is indeed a person/artist good enough to be supported by so many people and it doesn't change the fact that she sells better than many others. No arguing about it lol

Ayu has sales patterns like the most idolish idols; H!P and Johnny's.

You aren't being negative, just being truthfully about what you expected. I honestly thought GREEN/Days would sell better since the mass appeal of a standard winter ballad with lyrics expressing unrequited love (a popular theme the Japanese love). I mean, Days was the most heavily promoted song off the single and Ayu is getting 125k. I think the sales are good for Ayu on a normal stance but a single that has a song that has mass appeal is only selling this amount is diappointing.

The two that pop into my head immediately are H and Voyage. I recall reading Voyage had a ridiculous run on the charts...it was #1 for 3 consecutive weeks or something and it stayed on the charts for 28-30 weeks...half the year...=0. H was very similar in terms of the chart run. I think it was the record until Hikki's Flavor of Life came out. I do remember a correlation between the two so it's probably right.

^ lemme see...i can't remember exactly, but i think both hikki and ayu had one single with three consecutive weekly no. 1. Ayu's was Voyage, and hikki's was Hikari. It's funny tho cuz Hikari's overall sales considered to be sucky (just +500K). It's OT, but I think Sakura Doroppusu would have a much longer chart life (compared to hikari) if DEEP RIVER wasn't released a month later.

I kinda think Days will have a longer chart life than MW. Let's see if it has a better 2nd week sales.

Yes week 2 hehe. I'm sure it'll stay in the top 10, though I'm not sure of how many positions it'll drop. I do not think it'll hold onto #1...the only artist big artist I can think of off the top of my head that's releasing next week is Kuu's stay with me. If anything that will knock Ayu out of #1...just by virtue of being a new release.
