She probably just covered it for the show. You can see it fine in the encore footage from PCDL, so I don't think it's anything to worry about.

I guess they were in a hurry to cover it?
Because usually she'll airbrush it ^^

It's just probaly station requirement, no tatoos must be showed or sth like that, she covered it with bandage cause she hurried to CDL after and didn't want to waste time to wipe it off

Kouhaku: First thought she is removing her tattoo. I felt really happy and glad about it.

CDL: The tattoo is there and looks as it is. I'm really disappointed.

Ah that's kind of embarrassing...this is exactly why I don't really like the tattoo on her.

No no it's just embarrassing that she had to cover it up and there's a blaring bandage over it (as if to say tattoos are bad and they have to be covered up or something), drawing more attention than is necessary.

I'm sure SKYia meant, 'wipe the airbrush off' and not the tatoo...

i was thinking about it. perhaps it was not etiquette in kouhaku or smth like that having her tatoo exposed so she had to cover it, and she choose that really way of bandage as a protest!

however, when she performce seasoin a cappella + days she had it exposed... and her dress was not really tattoo like (much more the kouhaku dress) so, i don't understand anything!!!!

Don't a lot more people in Japan watch Kouhaku? I figured since there are usually a lot of Enka singers and such that there would be people from all sorts of age groups watching. And it's my understanding that in Japan tattoos are not seen in a very good light (probably 'cause of the Yakuza or whatever). She probably had to cover it up for the show...probably other people had to do it, too. It might not be a big deal wherever you live, but I think it's definitely a big deal in Japan, just like a lot of other stuff (e.g. Koda Kumi's amniotic fluid comment last year. So many people in Japan freaked out and I thought it was hilarious).

Actually, now that I think about it, Namie has performed on Kohaku before with all of her tattoos showing. So...

Maybe Ayu didn't want to have to deal with any possible backlash and Namie just didn't care?

edit: actually I just checked Namie's Kohaku performances and in 02 she had the tattoos showing, but in 03 they were covered (only time I've ever seen hers covered I think) So maybe Namie's tattoos in 02 caused the 'no more tattoos at Kohaku' thing that seems to be going on since. Actually maybe that's the reason Namie hasn't been on Kohaku since '03 - she thinks its ridiculous to have to cover her tattoos.

^Wouldn't be surprised, esp. since her tattoos have a lot of personal meaning for her. That's an interesting thing to think about.

Yeah, I totally didn't realize that could be the reason she hasn't been on Kohaku. I mean one is of her sons name and one is a tribute to her mother who was murdered. I could see being offended about having to cover them up.
