![]() I don't understand what makes people think this song is good lol Sure you can like it, but no one with a competent mind would think it was anything other than "average". And, not "average" for hikki and her Japanese-music-that's-not-going-to-sell-in-the-states, "average" for the American music industry. But whatever. I hope only the best for her and her career. I guess it's good 94.9 will be playing the song...I hope they try to find a balance between not playing the song enough and overplaying it...our radio stations never seem good at that.

I do think the new song is nice, but I think it's a shame how after the excellent HEART STATION she releases a song as generic as this
![]() I think song has a decent production, but the problems are just the way too cheesy lyrics. I realize that this sort of music has a better chance for success in the US, but I don't see why she has to compromise so much on her musical style. I think she could expirement a bit more, especially since the album is bound to sell close to a million atleast in Japan no matter what she does. and most likely flop in the US no matter what too ... at least Come Back To Me is not sexually suggestive like some of the songs in EXODUS

^I agree 100% with you.

![]() Also I'm guessing that the people who think Hikki needs to go back and make more ~experimental songs~ like in her Japanese career are completely forgetting about the stuff from First love and DISTANCE. Those were 100% American R&B/pop.

Do actually think the casual American music lover would choose Sanctuary over a song like Come Back To Me? If you said yes, please don't ever be a Hikki fan nor listen to American music. I really think you should just stick to being an Ayumi Hamasaki fan. Btw, I luved how you are laughing at rate of the song production when you worship Green aka worst/most generic song of 2008. An ant could produce Green and not make it crap. Quote:

I'm getting a little sick of these music elitists who think anything Western and mainstream is awful. I really don't think a lot of people here are in touch with American music enough to even understand what it takes to be big here. Quote:
![]() Also, my name isn't DDD, and get over yourself.

I am not a fan of American mainstream music, but I have nothing against some of the songs. I don't think that it's crap just because it's more mainstream, I even like Eat you up to a certain extent, even tough the lyrics weren't great, and I am aware that this isn't Hikki's first cheesy love song, but I am simply against sacrificing your music for the sake of more money (and it's not like she'll die if she doesn't get popular in the states), as her previous jpop efforts were way better imo. |

And please get over the fact that the "lyrics" aren't deep and confusing. Not everyone has to talk about losing hope and wishing for doves to set the world free. There's nothing wrong with the lyrics as they are meaningful for women who have cheated on someone. Just because her lyrics or anybody else's music doesn't base their stuff on Ayu's views of the world and herself doesn't make their stuff meaningless. Hikki isn't sacrificing her music just to cash on fans interest. Get over yourself and stop thinking she's doing that ok. You're always trying to pull that sacrificing their music card but its a big fail. ![]() @haikudasai: That's seriously not DDD. =/ Last edited by Luv ~Venus~; 9th January 2009 at 07:33 PM. |

Not being a 'stan' of Utada/Utada Hikaru (I'm more of a fan) I can simply look at her release patterns to know she's not in it to just obtain instant mainstream fame. I'm certain she wants to succeed but not at the expense of her artistic abilities. Also, if I remember correctly, she had several different labels approach her but she ultimately went with IDJ because they were willing to give her more/complete artistic freedom. Not to be a megastar. My opinion, entitled to have, is that her music abilities are left in the mud when this song plays. Although the producer has a nice resume for making mainstream hits, just like any person's career, a bland one comes along. Utada got it.
