Well there are still a lot of popular tv shows in the US that have artists perform. Oprah, Ellen De genres, tyra banks, Rachel Ray's show, the view, good morning America, all the late night talk shows etc. If any of them can get on one of those shows it would be great.

I can see Utada MAYBE getting on "Chelsea Lately" or "Carson Daily", but not on any big shows.
TRL would have been her best shot. A lot of artist got started on there. There really aren't any other Pop Countdowns.

They won't be going on to any of those shows without a really good album standing. Rain might pop up on Colbert Show but that's it. BoA did a really good job of promoting. Way better than Hikki did the first time. I really want to see her doing similar things. SM could get BoA a MTV special, Island better get her something similar. Another unplugged or something. And release recut singles.

wooo kaori, ddd, luv, the whole ******* brigade is here, it's a party just like old times
Being generic now is fine, but I think once she climbs up the ladder of popularity, she should definately begin to experiment. There's no reason why she can't mix and match her Japanese and English music, that's how new genres are created, that's how people get remembered, pioneering something new so long as it's successful

^I'm sorry - I don't know what the "******* brigade" is...
TBH - Her Japanese music will never fly here. At least her recent Japanese music. ![]() |

^I agree. It seems to me the people who are like "OMG BRING BACK HER JAPANESE MUSIC" are forgetting about DISTANCE and First Love, her two biggest albums. Those were completely mainstream Western pop/R&B, so how is it a surprise that Hikki is going back to her old ways? We saw that with POL, too.

Her old albums are definitely westernized. If she can somehow bring back that style, then she can definitely get some sort of audience. So it's kind of dumb that people who are her "fans" are surprised she's going back to that style.

I just don't think being THIS "generic" is going to get her up that ladder GRACE.

While I agree with that, as I'm very confused as to how her recent Japanese music did well in JAPAN, but experimentation is what makes an artist memorable, stick to the status quo to long and you fade out. Hikki could pioneer something if she really gave her all, but, she, or her label most likely, don't care enough too. There's NO reason WHY it wouldn't fly here, there are a good portion of us who are American, and we like Hikki's Japanese music.

^I am just imagining the type of stuff you and some other people here would like from her. And that would only do well with anime freaks and weeabos, IMO. You're not going to crack into the mainstream with stuff like what she's done in Japan. Out of curiosity, what type of song do you want her to do?

Like nothing she's done before but like everything. I'm talking synthesis here, I'm not talking a set genre, I'm talking synthesizing her experiences in Japanese music with her ideas on American music and the norms of America, it'd make an explosive combination.

I really can't wait for Hikki's upcoming album. It doesn't matter if it's in english, and do you know why? Because it'll be made by her, whatever she does, I'll give a try, because I love her voice.

I don't hate mainstream stuff. It's just not any fun if you try to be like everyone else, why be boring? She was boring with Heart Station, I want something that entertains me this time

I don't mean to be overly negative, but is anyone here honestly expecting Utada to be succesful in the US with her english songs?

Not with "Come Back To Me". As far as any other future English Singles go, she could and she couldn't. It depends on the song. Can't really answer that question until we hear them.
