...I only like a few songs:
BLING BLING BLING (But doesn't this kind of spark off some of the Asian sterotypes that Asians try to stay away from...) JUST THE WAY YOU ARE (her best pop-tune ever...) TABOO (best Kuu single of 2008) Introduction for TRICK (I actually hope she makes a full version of this song...) Joyful was okay...but I thought she was saying Joyfully. (Of course I only listened to it once before sending it to the recycling bin.) |

so i listened to the album, and it's so-so, just like her past couple albums, LOL. but i think i like this better than "Kingdom". actually, IDK, i think i'll have to re-listen to "Kingdom" & "Black Cherry" again. i think the ultimate downfall of this album are the ballads...it's sad that the awesome album tracks like "Driving" & "This is not a love song" are heavily drowned out by tracks like "Ai no Kotoba" & "Your Love".
"Black Cherry", "Kingdom", & "TRICK" are similar to me in a sense that they each have tracks i ADORE, but at the same time, some tracks that are just so...UGH. however, "secret" will ALWAYS be my favorite album of hers. that era and "Best ~First Things~" is the Kuu i love most.

I can't stop listening to JUST THE WAY YOU ARE, I REALLY wish it was a single, I'd love an instrumental since that's the part of the song I like <3

ALBUM RANKING TIME!!!
Secret - Just awesome, very fun, the first Kumi album I bought. Grow Into One - First album I heard from her, very solid RnB/Pop tracks. TRICK - Fresh new sound, fun and very upbeat but the ballads were just weak and lacking urban sounds. Black Cherry - Too many tracks were released ahead of time, probably its main downfall. Kingdom - Only a small handful of the tracks really stood out, but had a great flow. BEST~Second Session~ - Like Kingdom, but I felt it was pretty inconsistent in quality track after track. Affection - It contains her classic debut singles but I felt the album tracks were lacking greatly. Feel My Mind - I thought it was garbage, it's the only Kumi album I don't own. I only liked 4 tracks or so.

Intro to Trick: eh. I get that she's trying to have that "circus feeling" in the intro instrumentals, but I dunno, it just sounds unpolished. The song, however, is actually not half bad.
Taboo: <3 Show Girl: I dunno why, but it reminds me of Run for you life. Decent song, not spectacular Your Love: I normally like her more RnB-ish ballad, but this song just...dragged and dragged, and I really don't like her vocals in this song. Stay With Me: it's a carbon-copy of her major power-ballad, but I can't stop listening to this song, mainly because I actually really like her vocals in this song. This is not a love song: One of the better album songs Driving: the melody's not particularly catchy for me, and the arrangement kind of get on my nerves. Bling Bling Bling: I hope she was kidding with this song. I truly do, but oh does it give me the Lulz. That Ain't Cool: it honestly would be more fitting on a Fergie album. But eh, it's not a bad Fergie song. Hurry Up!: Also one of the best songs on the album Moon Crying: I still like the piano version better, but at least it deviated a little from her other ballads in terms of arrangements Just the way you are: it's not a bad composition, but it's not a song for her voice at all. It doesn't allow her to show her vocals, and end up making her sound like she lost her voice or something Joyful: It felt like Someday/WIND, but I dunno, it doesn't make that impact with me the way the other two songs had. Ai no Kotoba: Wonderful arrangement. Overall, eh. It's not a bad album that makes me want to rip out my ears, but it's just that nothing stood out, except for three songs. Maybe driving will grow on me.

quick question...
regarding vinyls, does anyone know how much Koda's american vinyls of "take back" and "trust your love" would be worth?

Hmm I was in a very love-y feel-good mood so I decided to listen to Your Love for the first time. ^^ The intro is SOO SWEET and pretty! With the sound and her beautiful vocals. <3
But then the verses are rather boring and bland.. I dunno.. I was expecting something like Always. There's not much interesting instrumentation going on to support the song's feeling and story. It reminds me of Hikki's Come Back To Me only with a more forgetful melody. Still absolutely LOVE the intro though. |

I'm glad that there is no over-pop-cutesy song here in Trick, i didn't like Wonderland from Kingdom, =)

INTRO TO TRICK - AMAZING!
TABOO - Her best song ever show girl - cute and fun. Bouncy too..reminds me of Run for your life but an "upped" version... Your Love - really sweet..its not bad actually..but might not be memorable stay with me - I still like this ballad a lot...veyr positive This is not a love song - quite surprising..especially the BOOM at the back...its quite gd actually but i wont listen to it all the time..the chorus sounds lazy Driving - TIED at best album song BBB - i really didnt like it but now it seems ok and quite cathcy and fun TAC - blegh Hurry Up! - OMG COOL!!! TIED with Driving Moon Crying - its a nice ballad..but aftertime it does seem dull...only at the end it sounds better JTWYA - Very nice!!!! Joyful - yep its gd. definitely WIND part 2 Ai no Kotoba - I really like the opening! if it werent piano..it would have felt rather epic. I like how she ends off with this...the chorus is quite generic.. I dont really like her voice..quite shrill >.< Venus - i dont understand the verses...lol..but the music is superb I REALLY LIKE THIS ALBUM... the reason Black Cherry FEELS better is because of its diversity..and that was shown through its singles... |
