I can understand why she cried!
What I didn't say before is if she underwent a surgery (apparently it's not the case) she could lost her beautiful voice! Because surgeon must push on the side, vocal chords. However, the chance is really weak! So, I think it's ok!

While I can't really assume she cried because of that, you're right about the surgery. Neck surgeries, specially thyroid ones, carry the risk of injuring the recurrent laryngeal nerves, which control the motion of the vocal chords, causing permanent hoarseness, which would finish a singer's career I reckon.

However, she doesn't even have a large goiter to need a surgery so far (unless they heavily photoshopped her latest pictures) and there's some options before resorting to surgery, like drugs and radioactive iodine to treat this disease, so it doesn't mean she necessarily has to go through a surgery to get this problem under control. If she needs a surgery, I think she'll surely pick a very experienced surgeon to do the procedure.
