I really dislike the current Japanese standards for male beauty. Soft, feminine, delicate, pretty, slender, harmless, non-threatening, cute, and ridiculously bad hair. Yuck! What's the point of being a man, then? Embrace your physiological difference! I'm waiting for this trend to be over already. Damn you Johnny's Jimusho! Damn you yaoi fan girls!

Give me masculine, rough, sexy, brusque, sporty, tough, handsome, charming, sensitive, intelligent, witty, gentlemanly. Hideaki Ito, Masahiro Motoki, Hiroyuki Sanada, Ken Watanabe. Now those are beautiful men!

Thank God Ryuhei Matsuda seems like he's toughened up for Kanikosen. What a waste of beautiful features if he continues to do that delicate-boy-lalala nonsense.

The list of women, though, is very much on the money. The Japanese still know what feminine beauty means, at least. I do think Ayu can be beautiful given the right hairstyle (she's beautiful on the A Complete cover). She should swear off full bangs forever! Everyone - unless you've got super high cheekbones - should swear off full bangs! Namie, I wouldn't call her beautiful. She's hot, but not beautiful. There is something not fully appealing about her face. She is pretty, though. Kumi Koda, in all honesty, is unattractive. Hikki has let herself go. She was beautiful during her Deep River era, but now she just looks sloppy. You don't have to uglify yourself to have people believe you're an "intellectual" and a "real artist", you know!

Oh for the days of Sonny Chiba and Toshiro Mifune! A time when you knew you were in perfectly capable hands!

But these are of course mainly women that are going to vote for this, not men and the softer look is what women are often attracted to. However, that said, there are a few on the list that I would consider "manly." Even some of the Johnny's. It's not just women that like Takuya Kimura, but men too - he and Fukuyama Masaharu both have a man's man type of image going on.

That's only because of some of her roles. She is great at playing a psycho. Looks wise though, she is a very classic type of Japanese beauty.

Yeah, I'm actually re-watching one of his dramas (Sora Kara Furu Ichioku Hoshi, highly recommended if you haven't seen it). And damn he is fine. He's not hot in a typical way though, he has a more unique hotness to him.

I can totally understand why Japanese women to this day hate Kudo Shizuka for taking him off the market.

Oh, I was just ranting, of course. Still, it's a trend that I to this day cannot fathom. Do women actually find these kinds of soft men sexually attractive? Is it because they are so non-threatening?

Then again, I was head over heels into Gackt at some point in my life. That phase was quickly dispensed with, however. If I remember, I was really young when that happened. Maybe it's a matter of growing up?

I agree about Takuya Kimura and Masaharu Fukuyama. Very good choice of men.

That's why I prefer Korean male actors. At least they are manly. Oh yeah, and at least they have a man's body. Japanese guys are so skinny and fragile-looking. LOL.
Yeah, thank God for Korean and Chinese male actors. A lot of manly men among them.

i sooooooooo agree with you. those Japanese so-called "hotties" look so... boyish and look like they use more face products than me. they turn me OFF. i prefer Ken Watanabe. aaah omg, he's so charming. and Fujiki Naohito!!!! OMG what i'd do to kiss him. his lips always seem to need some action.

as for women... Japanese have an odd standard for what's beautiful. narrow eyes are considered feminine and beautiful as well as a long oval face as i can see.
