Masaharu Fukuyama (福山雅治, born February 6, 1969) is a Japanese singer-songwriter, actor, radio personality, and photographer from Nagasaki, Nagasaki Prefecture. Among fans, he is known as Masha, Masha-nii, or Fuku-chan. He debuted in 1990 with single Tsuioku no Ame on Naka and still remains active and popular to this date.

While he can also be seen in television dramas, Fukuyama is best known for his singing career and remains popular in Japan. Since his debut in 1990, he steadily gained popularity. In 1993, he made his first appearance in Kōhaku Uta Gassen, where only successful J-pop and enka artists are invited to perform. In 1994, he had his very first platinum selling single It's Only Love/Sorry Baby. A year later, Hello became his second single to sell over a million copies. Squall, Sakura Zaka, and Niji are few of the songs that have made particular outstanding marks in Masaharu's career. Good night was his breakout single which gained a lot more audiences to his music because of its tie-up with a drama.

Also an accomplished photographer, he was sent to Sydney to cover the Olympic Games by TV Asahi in 2000. He also has a late-night Saturday radio show, Allnight Nippon. This versatile actor/singer has also appeared in numerous advertisements for companies such as Panasonic, Suzuki, Suntory, Fujifilm, Xylish, Kewpie, and Pocari Sweat. He celebrated his 15 years in showbiz anniversary with a series of concerts.

In 2007, after four years of disappearance, Fukuyama returned to television starring as the brilliant but eccentric Physics Associate Professor, Manabu Yukawa, in the widely acclaimed television drama Galileo. His outstanding performance in the role enabled him to win the "Best Actor" award at the 55th Television Drama Academy Awards. In relation to the drama, he also formed a band KOH+ with his co-star in the drama, Kou Shibasaki.

In 2008, NHK has selected Fukuyama over many A-list stars to portray Sakamoto Ryōma, the title character, in the 2010 year-long prime-time television Taiga drama Ryōma-den.[1]

According to the annual survey of popular celebrities in Japan by the magazine “Cancam”, Masaharu Fukuyama won the first place for the sexiest body, coolness, sexiest voice, and more. He is liked by all generations because of his appearance, voice and unpretentious personality. He likes photography and takes pride of his hometown, Nagasaki. Therefore, he opened his own photo gallery in Nagasaki in April 2008. His photos became as popular as his songs. He learned how to take pictures from Shoji Ueda who took his CD jacket photo.

Celebrating his 20th year in the industry, singer-songwriter Fukuyama Masaharu will be releasing a commemorating single titled 化身 (Keshin) on 2009.5.20. The song is used as the theme song for the Fuji TV drama Majo Saiban, starring Ikuta Toma and Kato Ai. The single will also include a self-cover of the song KISS Shite, originally performed by KOH+ for the drama Galileo. The single will be released in three formats: CD+20th Anniversary Special Towel, CD+DVD and CD-only. The special towel package will be limited and comes with a 90mm x 20mm towel.
