I think not though some of her lyrics are written directly to girls and some songs, I don't feel like effeminate because of Ayu. Except you are trying to dress like her as the others said
![]() Yes, I agree with riozz my friends during highschool would say these kind of things too, but who cares...they don't have anything to do with things I listen. Eventually some of my friends said that Ayu is gorgeous and awesome, and said that I'm such a loyal fan to always support and listen to Ayu when everybody easily changes trends and favorite singers and songs. |

Honestly, as a girl who grew up in a conservative part of Cali, where all the guys listen to Rock or Rap...it kinda weirded me out at first that there were so many guys listening to Ayu.
But meh, I mean, whatever. To each his own I guess. There are lots of guys here, and trust me, not all of them are gay lol So...seriously, I still have occasional hang ups about it, because to me, it is a bit weird, but like someone said above, there really shouldnt be anything wrong with it, and there shouldnt be that double standard...so I'm not about to say anything about it. People listen to what they like. You can't help what you like.

. Like they have an Asian fettish lol.But I can understand why it may make some men feel feminine listening to songs like my names WOMEN, HONEY, Beautiful Fighters, etc. Those are pretty girly sounding . HOWEVER, don't let that ruin your interest in Ayu! It's just music and as other people have said most of Ayu's lyrics are universal and are about experiences male and female alike can relate to. Besides, lots of men listen to male and female singers...they're is nothing wrong with that. We're all human after all. My bf listens to female singers without a problem...like Lady Gaga, Britney Spears on occasion, a little Ayu, etc. |

I'm another UK fan and have been for years. It seriously sucked for me at first in school because people found it weird that i was listening to A: Pop music and B: JAPANESE Pop music
.Now however, i don't try and hide it in the slightest, why should I? It doesn't make me feel effeminate in any way at all but then my musical taste is pretty diverse altogether so it would be impossible for me to feel different for everything i listen to xD My best friends listen to metal, and have no problem with it at all. Now... trying to explain my love of Morning Musume is a different kettle of fish

I'm not saying its a bad thing but wow, there are a lot of gay guys here. Am I the only straight one (joke)?
I don't think its "sad" that a guy feels self conscience about liking something that mostly girls like.

Well, I'm straight, and I must admit that a few songs of ayu are too cute and girlish (EnergizE for example) and I sometimes find me strange listening to this, because all music I listening is rock (gothic rock, alternative rock, j-rock... etc) and I can be listening a heavy metal song and the next song is ANGEL'S SONG, and it is so.... shocking? yeah. In terms of pop, I believe that I only listen to Ayumi and Hikki.
But I don't find it bad or so, I don't close my mind in one way of listening to music, and the same for my way to live. If it's good, it doesn't mind the style. Don't you think that?

this thread is made of major lulz.
everyone should simply listen to the stuff that makes her/him happy or whatever else you expect music to do for you. stereotypes are the death of diversity. |

well im a girl but i wouldn't think wrongly of a male to listen to ayu
(gay or straight doesn't matter) its a free world (well sort of) you can listen to all you want is like guys listening to britney spears im ok with it ~no im not comparing ayu to britney~ |

always have to put in that disclaimer lolAnyway...I don't think it's necessarily "sad" guys feel a certain way listening to "girly" music... but sometimes we also have to remember that people look for different things in their music. A lot of guys at my school loved koda just because she was hot. And I know people who think that way of Ayu too lol So...you never know. You like what you like...sometimes it's harder to like things that are against the norm...but if you always just reject yourself and go with the flow...then who are you...you're just a nobody, and you're worse because then you give up your individuality, and what makes you special. That's what's really sad, and I think that's more what fantasma meant.

I think it's natural for people to feel something when they do things that are different from others, whether they feel weird or proud, whatever. I mean, I think a lot of us have felt odd sometimes when most of us listen to Japanese music, and everyone kinda just gives you a look like "what." lol I imagine it might be the same for guys sometimes. I don't think it makes them feel effeminate though lol

hmm, kind of? like when i listen to her rock music like Because of You, Mirrorcle World, GAME, etc, that thought doesn't even enter my mind. but when listening to something like Beautiful Fighters, HONEY, even songs like fairyland and BLUE BIRD, it's like... guys wouldn't normally listen to that. and then when i watch her performances like Depend on You and Fly high at AT08 it's like guys REALLY wouldn't watch something like this... but i still love it!
same with ballads... the guys i know really don't listen to ballads. it's mostly songs about booty and poles etc. but i love ballads!

Ballads are my favorites all the time anyway. Even when it comes to rock bands like X Japan, their ballads just blow me away ^^. I really don't care if people think it makes me seem girly lol

and ballads usually are my favourite songs of artists, exception would be Nana Mizuki because I prefer her upbeat songs, but from almost every other artist i like ballads the most. |
