Capitalizations and non-capitalizations..
Another dumb question
Why does the capitalization/non-capitalization in Ayu's singles and albums matter? This should prob be in the Enquiries thread, mehhh |

Well... when they use english on Japan is not really like "words", it's more like "cool meanless signs" (even when they really know the meaning and it fits the song or whatever), the same way some western people have kanji tattoos or t-shirts without knowing japanese... So, IMO they capitalize the words on a way they think it looks better

Yup, as andrene said, it's purely an aesthetic reason.

As of late, Ayu has used more 'regular' capitalization than in the past. That is, start with capital & the rest is lowercase. If you've looked at earlier albums, more of the songs don't use standard title capitalization. But, yeah, I was a little curious about that, too.

off topic
i heard back then she uses english words so people might know what it means since japanese kanji may have alot of meanings now on topic i also think is stylish purposes but also she wants people to see the word stand out like my name's WOMEN she wants to know that shes basing the song on women sorry if you cant understand me |

^I never thought about the kanji thing. Interesting!
And I was also thinking, often in romaji lyrics, if anything is in phonetic English, its often translated into all-caps in the romaji lyrics. Like 'merodii' = 'melody' and it'd more than likely be written as 'MELODY' or 'MERODII' in romaji lyrics. I'm not really saying that this necessarily is a reason, I'm just pointing out that its something I've often seen, and is a possibility. ![]()

I think it's usually to make a statement eg my name's WOMEN or GUILTY.

I always thought the capitalized songs meant more to her? I don't know for sure, but that's what I think. And also, it is so people can understand what the song is all about.

I remember reading either here or somewhere else (might have been an interview..? Idk.) that when she capitalizes the title of a song it means that the lyrics/whole song is kind of "trying to put up a though front but being vulnerable/afraid/hopeful deep inside".
I don't really have any idea if this is true though. But good examples of this could be 1 LOVE, HEAVEN, HANABI, POWDER SNOW, WHATEVER and CAROLS to name a few.. I actually really like the idea of that, wether it's true or not. |
