Because the thread had yet to be closed. When a thread reaches 500 posts, you're supposed to start a new one and not continue to use the old one, but you can technically still post in it until a mod with powers to do so comes along and closes the thread. Then you can no longer post in it.

I'm so sorry! I thought that it was just a glitch or something and that the threads automatically locked themselves after 500 ( ).
