^ Yes, thank you. *coughMadonnacough*
Seriously, people need to get over GaGa's "originality". She stole Madonna's fashion and mixed it with Japanese. It's an insult to both Madonna and Japan, lol. D: And--Ugggghhhh!!!!!!!!!!! 'Her costumes look like Lady GaGa', 'this song sounds like Namie'--FOR THE LOVE OF GOD STOP IT!!!! I swear I'm gonna have to shoot you people. ![]() ![]() ![]() Ugh! Anyways... I listened to each preview once.....And I'm kinda disappointed. ![]() ![]() ![]() Last edited by Crystal_Ageha; 24th March 2010 at 06:20 PM. |

When discarding that bias, you can realize that the same applies for Japanese pop. Sure, there is a lot of crap on the Billboard 100, but in all honesty, a lot of that crap is 100x better than what's on the current Oricon chart. This is not directed at you, but I just feel the need to comment on embarrassed I feel when people hate on American music, but then glorify Japanese music just because it's Japanese and supposedly exotic.

Hey i agree. There is quite a bit that sounds the same out there on the Asian markets too. Trust me, I've found quite a bit. I honestly and personally don't think that Ikimonogakari for example sounds all that original. Also, I can't help but notice all the girl groups and boy bands to show up in Korea lately.... I've been listening to Jpop since 1997, so actually I find I also know some artists that many of the younger people today aren't familiar with. Like I was first there when like Namie and ELT were first starting out. Also, i dont glorify it cause its Japanese or exotic in any way. To be perfectly honest, i think no matter where u go, whether it be music or anything else, theres always problems and such. And of course, with music, some of it is also opinion. I think about the oldest Asian artist i listen to and am quite a fan of (and not cause of anime tie-ins) is L'Arc~en~Ciel. Also, something neat,(although off-topic) is I was about 6 years old when I was in Japan and saw the very first episode aired for the first time of Sailormoon. And I agree, I am sick and tired of the comparisons. They make no sense and just because Ayu is in a white room doesn't mean anything, it's just a white room for god's sake.. ![]() |

Yes, music from any place of the world can "sound the same" depending on how you're willing to pay attention to it or not. But I get what SoldierofSilence means.
What bugs me is realizing that nowadays people just seem to have an urge to make comparisons and underestimate Ayu's creativity. It's really annoying, especially when their standard for "creativity" is Lady Gaga. I mean really, come on.

Back to Ayu-ness, as I listen to LD and the ad version of Don't Look Back, I can conclude that as of now, I do not like them very much. LD > DLB, but they're still meh to me. I do think that with an HQ version of LD that I can learn to love it, just like how I came to love EnergizE.

I also watched the Youtube-Preview of Sexy LIttle things.
It is very... different.. sounds a little bit like Music from the 40th. Is she wearing the same dress in Sexy little things and Microphone??? It looks very similar. But.. well... seems like, I don't like that song until what I have heard. |

LOL honestly why are people getting mad?
i like lady gaga, and can see why someone would decide ayu's videos a gaga-esque. it doesn't mean gaga is a standard, it just means she left a definite image of something crazy she did in our minds LOL it's the same way ayu songs remind us of other ayu songs, doesn't mean we hate the song or think it's unoriginal you just get the same feeling or impression! |

Ok, nobody can deny that this PV really does scream GaGa. Seriously. It's not necessarily a bad thing, but it's totally GaGa.

Regardless if it's been done before, GaGa is doing it. And Ayu is doing it. So if GaGa = what you've seen before and Ayu = what you've seen before, then Ayu = GaGa.

I love Lady GaGa, and believe she IS quite creative, but I do think that she may be heavily inspired by the Club Kid scene from the late 80s/early 90s. She for sure knows of James St James and Michael Alig. LOL

Lol, well GaGa = David Bowie? I'm just sick of everyone being frightened to death by GaGa comparisons. Any non-Ayu fan would totally see the PV and say "oh is this GaGa's new work?"

And I wouldn't say "frightened" more than "annoyed" and "fed up". And like I said before, people that look at this and think about no-one besides Gaga probably are too young to understand who really is a standard for pop culture and originality. That's my point, period. Quote:
