I think this would be a perfect video to help prove that J-Pop indeed does sound different than Western pop - or, more specifically, especially American pop, which is the main violator of this copycat formula - because I was trying this in my head, and most songs didn't sound that that at all..... Then again, J-Pop does have its own formula for mass-producing hits, hah.
In the end, yes, pop hits are very easy to create, no matter what country it's from. A few tweaks here and there, but in general, pop music is very....well, uncreative. And meaningless.... And catchy. XP

Thanks for sharing. I got a good laugh out of it.

I don't study or understand much of music, but many songs do follow a certain structure in order to sound mellodic. It's not really impressive that the majority of those songs with a few exceptions were actually pop ballads. Also, there are cultural differences in music that can be noticed by people who are more expertise into that matter. My brother's girlfriend was studying music at college, so when my brother played some instrumental japanese rock songs in front of her, she was sort of able to deduce some of the songs were japanese by their structure, even though he didn't really tell her that the songs were japanese. She had studied some aspects of regional music from different countries so she was sort of able to tell by ear. I was impressed though how she really has a good musical memory though. she's not even ionto japanese music to begin with.

By the way, I'm a huge fan of the majority of the songs they play in that video hahahah

@Strawbary: tnx, idk why the vid doesn't show in my post >.<'
@Impact: yeah, most of the songs r the 'good oldies' as we call them, most of us and our parents grew up on this music

agree

Ths is this the reason i hate 70% of pop's music. Incredibly uncreative, formulaic, predictable and booooooring . Most of my music comes from people who actually wants to make some effort to make something creative/with quality. I know the artists, but (thank God) i cant recognize their tunes, or i ignore them.

wait I don't understand...

But can't you like...use the same 4 chords for any song ever and then just transcribe the vocal notes to match the key of those 4 chords?

wait...no...thats keys...

they mean like, the same type of chords, as in, different keys for all songs, but just, say the type of chords are always the same...ex. the major chord, minor chord, diminished etc...yes?

Because I mean like...there is a general...consensus? over what sounds nice to the ear...if we had a bunch of songs using these lesser used chords...music would be...quite ugly lol

It would probably be more artistic...but be careful what you wish for...because it would probably be really very harsh to listen to lol

I mean just listen to some of those seventh chords! Ouch lol

They chose songs that were written in the same key signature, and transposed them to match their voices so it flows. If the songs were not all part of the same key signature, then the chords couldn't be applied this way.
