[Rant] What is The World Of Music Videos Coming To?

''Okay this may get trashed, but I need somewhere to vent my opinion''

The world of normal music videos is slowly coming to a crashing halt in my opinion. You have Lady Gaga and Beyonce killing people, that's epic though, cos you don't see them actually murdering them, just the faces as they die. You get Christina Aguilera bound and gagged for a video, but that's growing on me. Then you get the downright horrible.

M.I.A. used to be one of my fav artists. Now she isn't. Her new video for Born Free is gross. She's not in it, for starters, and then you see a group of black people murdering ginger haired people. A kid is killed by gun at close range, and you see a ginger-haired man being blown to pieces because he stepped on a landmine. The video is 9 minutes long.

So my question is...what is the world of normal music videos coming to? You don't see Ayu tying herself to a chair, bound and gagged, kissing a woman, or Koda Kumi blowing up people.

I've vented my opinion.

Most people do that kind of stuff to garner controversy. That way they'll get a lot of publicity from people calling it "offensive" or/and "indecent" and then a lot of people will watch it to see what all the hoopla is about.

^ what he said is very right

plus really when i watch the simple videos with little random love story plots whether in japan or america or wherever theyre sooo boring after a while. . .controversy is how to do it, baby!

u dont like M.I.A because the video is "gross" mmm. .. sounds like that child soldier book i read this yr in history. stuff like in her vid can go on (in another way though). i dont see an issue with showcasing it in her song. and yeah more attention.

So you're referring more to violence in music videos for the purpose of trying to be edgy or "going there"?

I really don't care, because I only watch videos of a select few people. I haven't seen that Christina one though, so maybe I should watch it. lol

Seriously, the only time I don't like a video is when there is product endorsement.

I can't really comment though... since, like I said, I have never come across very violent and/or "weird" videos.

i agree...that MIA video is pretty graphic and gross. i think its a bit unnecessary. i'm all for being edgy and controversial and for trying to get your message across, but i really don't care to watch videos like that one.

plus, the song isn't even any good!!!

i think sometimes the key to getting your message across is to be a little bit more subtle. things that are as extreme as MIA's new video turn people off and then they won't give time to the video. i think something a little smarter and more subtle would work SO much better.

M.I.A. is trying to prove a point- thats what she has always used her music for. This is in no way, shape, or form the first offensive thing she has done.

Ayu and Koda have offensive videos too. Sparkle was based on a porn, and well, a lot of koda's videos ARE softcore porn.

^seriously...and a lot of Ayu's vids are crazily twisted...there are a lot of japanese artists that have twisted videos actually....

I don't think videos are getting that bad...some of the ones you mentioned are great videos...like telephone.

MIA's...is not something I want to see...so then I don't go see it. I wouldn't lose any love I had for her just because of a video though...I mean...then it's kinda like...well did you even understand the artist in the first place? You don't have to like it...but sometimes...I think, maybe you should expect it?

I mean...we can only expect artists to be themselves (or their images) right?

Not as bad as those black rnb / hip hop / rap singers who prance around in their bling bling and nikes shoes, cruising in their flashy cars and dancing around their giant arse mansions with pools while rubbing themselves up against part naked women. Id rather see people getting murdered then watch that crap!
