Mika Nakashima - She was never big enough, nor does she have any 'throne' qualities, as much as I like her.
Hikaru Utada - Doesn't release enough to take anybody's place, lol. :\
Aya Matsuura - .....Wut??--Why is she here???
Namie Amuro - Too old, and also too 'in' and 'out', constantly going from one of the biggest things ever to a nobody and back again.
Ai Otsuka - She had potential for something like this, but that didn't last long...

So..other? Hm... Honestly, Kumi Koda is one of the only ones that comes to mind (the only really big one, at least), but she isn't steady enough to ever replace somebody like Ayumi. But I do agree that Kana Nishino has potential to be something like this. As a matter of fact - and, I'm not really sure why, even - she reminds me of a more R&B, less unique (and I don't mean that in a bad way, but I can't think of another way to word it...) version of Ayu, hah. Like, for some reason, every time I see her, I think of Ayu. o_O And she is big with the same groups that Ayumi is, and her popularity is definitely rising, so....
I dunno, though. I honestly can't see anybody ever taking her place.
