Wow. I expected her sales to be at least double what they are right now...

There have been singles that have done better w/out public promotion, so that's not really an excuse.

At least she'll be in the top 50 singles for the year...

Not so for Arashi and AKB48. They're selling like crazy. Have no clue why though.

Well no, of course there are still artists that are "on the uprising" but that doesn't change a single thing about the fact that general sales are dropping.

If Arashi had this surge of popularity 5 years ago they might've been able to get one or two million selling singles. Right now 690.000 is already a huge accomplishment.

Even if general sales are down, there's an obvious interest in those groups right now. If sales were what they were a year or two ago, I still don't think Ayu would be doing as well as some current artists. Maybe people just aren't as interested in her music as they once were. We'll see how well it does at the end of this week.

Its sad that that 690k you mentioned is for singles and not albums. It's like singles are all the rage now, considering album sales.

Yeah. Album sales in Japan had always been a tad low compared to the other major music markets (Japan has a bit less than 50% of the total inhabitants of the US but the album sales were only like 33%), but it's pretty dramatic this year. Let's hope there'll be some surprises on the way =/

Based on music, I have no idea either. But that's what the kids in Japan are into these days I suppose.
