^ Ah yes, that'd make sense! It's Wednesday! Where is my head today? Sorry; my other posts seems so much more over dramatic now haha.
Well yes, I don't doubt it'll make an appearance again, even if its not by too much.

People are saying that Ayumi Hamasaki's career is dying, yet Namie Amuro, who had a huge revival in popularity only sold 23,000 copies with her new single first day, while Ayumi sold 35,000, so i would say Ayumi's career is still kicking and owning!

That we won't know for another few hours. Don't forget that WILD/Dr. couldn't outsell Rule/Sparkle ^^ Namie doesn't have such strong FAN base as Ayu does.

If people want an example of a career that's over, go look at Aoyama Thelma. I'm a fan of her myself, but that's a pretty sad story.
Ayu's career isn't over until no one cares anymore and she can't sell enough to enter the top 30. And even then it isn't over until she wants it to be over. |

Yeah, Namie was more of the "IT" girl for a short period. Ayu's fanbase is where it's at yet.

^ Agreed!
Whether sales in Japan are what they used to be or not, it's clear that Ayu still has a great amount of reigning power otherwise she wouldn't have made it this far, or her singles wouldn't be selling this well. I mean this single has no promotion whatsoever, especially since the tour itself isn't exactly considered promotion for the single (but I suppose it does help somewhat) yet some artists who consistently get promotion can't quite get the sales that she gets. She's still well-loved, well-supported and for me she's jsut proof that emotions and honesty in music sells well regardless of the era.

I don't think Japanese listeners care if she sells or top the charts as much as we do in here lol I strongly believe she will keep selling until the day she stops producing new music, and even after that for sure!! She is one of the biggest icons in Japanese music history, and she will always be

^ Yeah, the Japanese when listening to her and stuff really don't bother with the charts and rankings and stuff, I think they just continue to support her and that's brilliant. I don't entirely care about the sales either, I'm most happy that Ayu is releasing music, still performing, things like that; if she stopped doing well on the chart it wouldn't change how I felt about her. But she's got a streak going and that's a cool thing to have; I find it awesome and so I definitely support it and want her to continue to do well.
She is definitely one of the biggest things in Japanese pop music history; she'll keep doing well as long as she keeps working, and even after that.

Casual listeners will always have a different approach than the fans do ; ).
Take Mariah Carey. I'm not a fan. When I hear a song I like, I just go download the song and enjoy it, I don't give a bazeez whether or not it reaches no. 1 or no. 190. I just like the song. The Mariah Carey fans however will be obsessing over its chart position. It's just the natural cycle of life! XD |
