What Remixes are considered to be in the "dubstep" genre?
Title kinda explains all, lol. It's kind of a different question because only someone really into remixes/techno will know the answer.. so hopefully someone knows!

I think Who... (Who Dub It?) and SCAR (Don't Cry mix) are Dubstep^^

Those are dub, not dubstep... dubstep is MUCH faster and is more in the realm of like.. like drum & bass or hardcore (not as happy sounding as h-h stuff like the Seasons remix). I'd have to go through her remixes and see, but offhand I can't think of any... I'll let you know

I didn't know that dubstep had to be fast... However now that I think about it, most DJ mixes that I listen to mixes with dubstep that has a sick speed.

Dubstep is a slow, bass-filled, grinding-like music. It has influences from dub, reggae, drum'n'bass and so on. People often dexcribe it as a "dirty love-making" sound" (lol). I haven't come across a real dubstep remix of Ayu's songs yet. Or at least I can't remember one. Dub originated in reggae, you can hear that quite well, but dub songs usually (not always) are remixes of a song. It then adds tons of echoes to get a kind of... more dimensional structure, remodels the whole song to the max, removes vocals or "uses" them as instruments and also emphasizes the bass. Examples for this genre are: Happy Ending (Mad Professor Remix) from ayu-mi-x 6 <--especially this one! Dearest "The Implication Dub Mix" from ayu-mi-x 4 Who... "Who dub it?" from ayu-mi-x 2 There are a lot of mixes that use the term "dub" though. But not to refer to the dub genre, but "to describe the re-formatting of music of various genres into typically instrumental, rhythm-centric adaptations", meaning it is a remix that focuses more on the instrumental work of a song than the singing. |

Thanks for the responses! I just recently heard dubstep from a friend and I instantly started thinking about Ayu remixes. I mainly felt like, "yeah, I've heard this type of music before." All I really know specifically about the genre is that it's a tone of bass. I was in my car today listening to some ayu-mi-x albums trying to figure out which is which, lol. Gotta love that techno though <3

I'd say Beautiful Fighters x MSTRKRFT is more Electronica. Stuff that Boys Noize or Daft Punk do.
Aww, man. I really don't know how to explain that genre xD What Delirium-Zer0 wrote sounds right to me, but I never really heard a dubstep song that sounded fast... I'm missing something here. That's also why I'd say the Yoji mix is more like a hard/tech house-trance mix. And now I'm just as confused as everyone else. The borders to all these genres just keep blurring! ![]() |

Everyone is getting too confused to answer anything! xD I was listening to Beautiful Fighters x MSTRKRFT again today and I must say how off I was calling it dubstep. It's so heavy in electronica, specially the break down in the middle of the song. Crazzy! I know that dubstep is a fastish beat (in between) and has HEAVY BASS. It's one of the things I love about the genre because it sounds sweet on my surround system ![]() |
