The song, the PV, everything about it is pretty epic. I had more hope in Ayu when I heard it for the first time. I think it's funny how most of us enjoy it here and in Japan it's one of their favorite songs.

To me Ayu's epic ballads are: POWDER SNOW, SCAR (every time I hear it my heart swells), still alone, Voyage, forgiveness, HANABI ~epII~, Memorial address (if that counts?), criminal, HEAVEN, Will, JEWEL (simple but her vocals are EPIC!), Part of me, Together When... (probably on the top three most epic for me). I think these songs as wholes are her most epic ballads, from the music to the lyrics to the vocals, just perfect.

As far as the Days vs. You were... debate goes, to me, they are both very similar! To me days is more sweet, YW... is more powerful. They're perfect one right after another, you all should try listening to them both together, it's an amazing experience.

^ See I just totally hated You were... - I think it has nothing on Days. Can't even compare (imo). I think maybe people say it's "generic" or "boring" because you know where the song is going. There isn't much of a mystery sounding the structure of the song, the composition, the melody. But that's what I love. It seems like it was composed perfectly, simply, effortlessly but actually with a lot of effort... if that makes sense. It just feels to me everything for this song worked in its favor. I prefer something like this over HEAVEN or something more boring like that (sorry HEAVEN fans). See also "Virgin Road"

I agree, I think everything worked in Days' favor. The song is just... perfect. It didn't need any more or any less. It all effortlessly came together into not only the perfect sweetheart song, but a great winter song as well!

HEAVEN is ok - I love love LOVE the piano version from the slideshow on the DVD. I listen to it a lot. But it was just so "hyped" as being the best ballad and rivaling "My Heart Will Go On" as far as power and epicness goes and I just find it kind of a letdown and a snoozefest. Lol. Endless Sorrow is an EPIC ballad - much more so than HEAVEN.

But yeah, Virgin Road I really dislike because the chorus is just... not good.

Is endless sorrow a ballad?

I already listed my epics, but to me they're epic because when I listen to them, they take my breath away. Endless sorrow doesn't do that at all. I just think, "wow this song is so cool!" But epic BALLAD? I don't know...

The actual meaning of the word epic has gotten really blurry with people using it in the recent years as slang for "cool" and "amazing." At least lately for a lot of people, mind blowing = epic, which isn't really the correct meaning.

Really? I think Endless Sorrow is such a POWERFUL song. I'm in love with it and I even named an art project/self photograph after it.

It definitely is a powerful song but I get a different vibe from it I suppose... It's more powerful as it, "This is really great, what an inspirational song!" but not, "OMG I CAN'T BREATHE THIS IS AMAZING!" At least not to me. Ayu has a lot of great, powerful, inspirational songs... Endless sorrow falls into that category for me, but not epic ballad.

Oh I agree with you I think. I just think the emotion in the song is so overwhelming and that's why I considered it epic, ha ha.
