Was hoping for 80K but well, it's still good.

lol exactly. It's been mentioned again and again that there's only a few exceptions when it comes to idol groups being popular which nowadays is just AKB48 and Arashi, everyone else is pretty much on life support. Just look at H!P's sales and they've been around a lot longer and arguably have a wider selection of groups, soloists, archetypes and fresh, attractive girls. It's obviously something else other than the superficial. They're the same groups and people they'e always been even before they were popular, people have just taken a strong liking to their music now. I don't see why that's so hard to believe.

Oh, I don't find it hard to believe at all. I'm well aware people actually like their music, but it's obvious that popularity plays a role, and I think it's a foolish choice no matter what. But then again, I've never really been into pop music at all. And pop means... you know.. popular.

Well, at least in my experience when it comes to AKB (and I hope AKB fans won't kill me for this), AKBs popularity seemed almost entirely created by the media. I swear it literally went like from no one in the general public knowing or caring who they were to them suddenly being EVERYWHERE quite literally overnight. The media made them seem popular and that then in turn actually made them popular, because in Japan especially, people have a need to follow what is considered the hottest trend. That's the only good explanation I have of how a group that was mainly only ever supported by Otaku went to being a huge group among teenage boys and girls who usually consider all things Otaku and Otaku related disgusting.

In Mr. Children's case, the Japanese just seem to like that type of music and I have learned over the years that they do grow on you, although it tends to take a while for foreigners to get used to and to like their sound. Also, they are very loved for their lyrics in Japan.

I am kinda aware of that, it's just that lately I haven't really been giving many new things a chance, as opposed to what I used to do a couple of years ago. I really do respect both Mr. Children and B'z as even though they had their ups and downs their album stills sell amazingly well (or great) and unlike the case with the idol bands their music is the thing that sells them.

The sales will most likely drop to around 14-16k tomorrow.
