There's no particular reason, she's just called the ballad queen because she does them best. I think she did a lot of ballad lately because she wanted to do more upbeat songs for VOICE and the following tour (overload + candy girl) then she did a lot of ballads (Nagareboshi, ALWAYS, Ichiban Kirei na Watashi wo & Dear)
I just personally think her ballads sells better than her more upbeat songs, that could be simply a marketting reason, her voice is also more suited for them maybe ?

Mika's got a very smooth voice which sounds really good when she sings ballads or jazz songs

I felt as excited as the interviewer watching this  I seriously got goosebumps! ^^ and yes! finally an interview that goes into Mika's barefooted singing! oh what I wouldn't give to see her on this tour, like I said before, this is gonna be a really special one. You enjoy it for all of us Mylene
