^ When you talk about the industry right now, after 2009 in Kpop year, I kinda understand that since everyone is mass producing groups left and right :/

^^ urgh I agree with the last part .. I just find myself cringing at all these groups popping up out of nowhere everyday .. Most of them have terrible songs and concept that are trying to copy what ever is popular at the moment .. Of course there are good groups with awesome songs and talented members from time to time but for each talented and original group, there are like 5 horrible ones =\
It just irks me to see all these companies putting a bunch of young people together and calling them idols to make quick money.

Different people, different tastes. Simple as that.

All these K-pop groups, Johnny's groups, and also AKB48 are honestly selling based solely on appearance.
Not all Kpop idols, JE idols, and AKB girls are zomgsogorgeous, and not all their fans like them and buy their CDs because they look nice on the covers, js.
The main reason why I like AKB48 right now is because I think their songs are awesome, so sorry I guess I'm doing it wrong

I feel like this type of thread has been made many times before with this same type of how should I put it.. "unique" grammar. Top artists in Japan are already being outsold by newcomers like KARA & SNSD and their popularity is increasing with each new release. I don't think they're a fad or there would have been signs of fading already. I think they deserve all the attention & sales they get since they're hard workers and put out decent music unlike so many other top artists in Japan.

So it's not completely their fault. Maybe they're just finding a way that their talent could be recognized widely and to channel their desire to sing, nonetheless whether they're making their own music or not.

^ ayu still popular on Japan off course. In terms of positive or negative, I don't really know. But she has established a name to herself and that people would always refer to her as one of the greatest JPop singers.
I certainly agree that they are very talented and that it's the agencies fault. I'm not saying they're not talented individuals.

J-Pop is a little bit better right now, but honestly J-pop is also ridiculously stale at the moment. The only good artists are Ayumi and Namie... umm, and yeah. Other artists occasionally put out decent songs but not consistently (Koda Kumi, Miwa, Miho Fukuhara). All these K-pop groups, Johnny's groups, and also AKB48 are honestly selling based solely on appearance.
This post is a little controversial but I actually do agree with the point you make. If they were ugly, it'd be obvious that they wouldn't be selling at all. Not only that, the people who produce the music use the most generic beats, like you said.

At the same time, I feel like it's not my place, or anyone else's place, to judge. Music taste is largely opinion, it's not factual. What sounds great to some sounds bad to others. It's simple as that. You can tell someone that he/she has horrible music taste for liking a certain artist, but that doesn't mean you're right. Plus for K-pop/Johnny/AKB artists, they actually do put a lot of effort into their career, even if they are only treating themselves like products. They still sell because they put that effort in to promote themselves.

The only thing that can be measured is how much time and effort is put into composing songs and lyrics. Shiina Ringo, for example, put a LOT of effort into her solo music, carefully crafting together pieces and pieces so the song has many creative elements and easter eggs to it. AKB, Johnny, and K-pop songs may be good to the ears, but besides that, what are they good for?

(Sorry I played a lot of devil's advocate...xD)

Kpop won't beat Jpop in its own industry. Also I'm not sure why people feel this is some recent trend, theres always been Kpop and Kpop artists in the Jpop industry, like when Se7en and Boa was more popular in Japan than Korea. Kpop artists/groups don't hesitate to jump on the opportunity because theres a lot more money in the Jpop industry. Back in the early 2000s when good Jpop albums would hit platinum, did you know that if a kpop album sold 100k or 200k, it was considered a top seller for the year? Unless you're one of the rare ones to strike worldwide fame like Jang Dong Gun or Rain, theres not a lot of money in the entertainment industry in Korea. An actor on a hit TV show or an artist with a top selling album is not much wealthier than a middle class citizen.

It was a LOT better in the 90s. If you're passing judgment solely on the past few years, I'll agree its been pretty bad. A Hyori album is better than half the stuff thats considered Kpop these days.

I agree with you. It's not going to become another "let's flame k-pop thread", it's already been taken to that level by a few. And it's probably going to get worse as well. While I understand that people have different preferences and some may not like certain types of music, I personally don't understand why some people (not everyone) feel the need to be so insulting to those who like k-pop. I mean, everyone has the right to have their own opinion but there's no need to take it to a level where it's just downright offensive. And to be honest, many of the points brought up in this thread can be said about any artists in the world so I don't know why k-pop artists are being specifically targeted as I'm sure there are also j-pop artists as well as artists all over the world who fall in the same categories. But anyways, why knock their hustle? As long as they're not hurting anyone and they're working hard, why criticize? I wish them all successful careers and if I don't like certain artists music, then I don't listen to them (and that goes for j-pop and k-pop). This j-pop vs. k-pop war is very tired and pointless. Both have their strong and weak points. Saying that, I do feel that the intention of this thread was to stir the pot and to get people all fired up as all of the ones in the past did. Some things are just better left alone for the most part and I think this thread is one of them so I won't be posting here anymore.

Best posts in this thread and in any ~let's flame kpop/compare jpop and kpop in a forum dedicated to a jpop artist!~ thread .. Can't the mods do something about it ?
I wish I could put these quotes in my sig XD

I still think that the OP is a troll (even though they're gonna come here to deny it instead of making a rational reply to all the other posts) and that these threads are pointless. How many times have we gone through this ?

Honestly, I find that hard to imagine...I think it's more of a trend that will eventually fade away after it gets old...It may always be there, but it'll never completely take over Japan..that's like saying the British are gonna take over the American music scene in a way lol.

Sure, if you want to hear her sing a bunch of covers that didn't credit the original artists
