So...Nicki Minaj....

So my two friends said something about Nicki Minaj to me that really bothered me.

They simply said "I think Nicki Minaj is just a really tan white person."

However, I dived deeper into that simple quote. Is it bad if an African-American main-stream rapper wants to be "unique" or "different" from the others? And that just because they are, they're suddenly labeled a "really tan white person" (although I understand they were joking around, it still seemed kind of rude). What is your guys' opinion? Not trying to start a flame war or anything, just looking for input. Maybe I'm looking a bit too deep into their comment, but ever since my own race got attacked on a local radio station, I've been stepping back a bit on racial comments.
