Wow, this thread is so awesome I've checked out a lot of music from some artists here, and I have to say I've been missing out on a lot of good music. Thanks for sharing, everyone! I'd like to share some British music, since I'm from England.

Adele

Adele is actually known internationally now...so you may of already heard of her. Her album 21 is the highest selling album worldwide this year so far She actually made her debut two years ago, with her first album 19 (both albums are her age when she released them ), and although popular back then, she took a long break and then seemed to reach super stardom with her second album this year. I'll post two videos, one from each album.

Chasing Pavements

Someone Like You

This video was recorded in her home, and has a mini-interview explaining why she wrote the song and the meaning behind it, and she also sang this song live. This song is hugely popular here in the U.K, and it's absolutely beautiful.

Just pick someone! ^__^ Maybe some who is pretty popular?

Oh, I have to show you this really awesome album cover from PMMP, it's from the 21st Century special box. It is manga styled, and has even japanese in it.
The album is Kovemmat kädet [Kumipainos] [Tougher hands, and now, we are not talking about Kuu-chan here, "kumi" happens to mean rubber/tire in Finnish ]
Spoiler:

Isn't it lovely <3?

Ah, I have wanted to introduce this band for so long, and finally I am able to do it!
It's one of my favorite Finnish duos ever, say hi to:

PMMP

Stage name: PMMP
Key members (singing): Mira Luoti (age 33) and Paula Vesala (age 29)
Debut year: 2003
Genre: Pop/rock, Punk/rock, alternative
Language: Finnish
Main studio albums:
Kuulkaas enot! (2003) [Hear this, uncles!]
Kovemmat kädet (2005) [Tougher hands]
Leskiäidin tyttäret (2006) [Daughters of a widow mom]
Puuhevonen (2007) [Wooden horse, children's song covers]
Veden varaan (2009) [Flowing to the water]
2000-luku (2009) [21st Century, boxset, includes all five studio albums with alternative cover art]

From Ilosaarirock Festival site (2009):
PMMP's formula has it all: two singers that easily charm the pants off both boys and girls with their simultaneous display of easily approachable spontaneity and saucy charisma; immaculate backing band with co-operation that's polished seamless by the combo's relentless touring; catchy and inventive songs; and, no matter where they go, always an audience that's more than ready to love every move that this mob makes and cherish every precious moment they can spend in their presence. The assemblage is so perfect that if it wasn't there already, it would have to be invented. But in that case, would so many things click in the manner that they do now? We seriously doubt it.

PMMP, originally formed by two young ladies who didn't quite qualify for the local Popstar contest, is one of the most astonishing success stories in the Finnish music scene over the last few years. Even a short time spent in Finland is certain to make you familiar with their music, because it's everywhere. The girls have gained themselves a position where they can do just whatever they please and turn it into gold anyhow: win the hearts and souls of even the most hard-boiled rock media and have their albums and songs unanimously voted as No. 1's in the yearly polls; sell platinum even before a single copy of an album has reached the shops, like they did with their third album; or to release an album full of versions of old Finnish children's songs, like they did after that.

PMMP belongs to the Finnish summer like a candy-coloured umbrella. They're hard to escape and hard to resist, so stop your struggling and join the happy, dancing and pogoing and shouting mob!

There's nothing like PMMP, is there? Well, I guess they are little like our own PUFFY, but I think they are still little more rock than those girls, also they do have really "uncensored" lyrics, they do curse in the lyrics quite a lot, and also have quite many songs with harsh topics, like sexual abuse, etc. But they do have more innocent songs too, and I think the style they have fit pretty well in their songs.

I would like to present some awesome songs from these two! ^__^

This first one is called Rusketusraidat [Tan lines] it's PMMP's first hit, and the most known song from them. It's full of freedom, youth and super good summer feeling, rocking way!

OMG THE ONE GIRL IS WITH LAURI ISN'T SHE?!!!!!! Unf unf unf lucky b**** Lauri is like my favorite person ever x____X I want his babbbyyyyy. I'm excited to get to know them!!!

Yes, Paula [the blonde one] is Lauri's girlfriend ^_^ Oh, really? Cool that you like him so much!
Y' know what? When I was in P!nk's tuor in '10, PMMP did short performance too, and Lauri was standing almost next to me! XD I would have said "Hi!" to him if I would have noticed him sooner :,D

I wanna translate this song so bad <3

It's called Kesäkaverit [Summer pals] and it's just so summery and happy! I'm sure you gonna love it!
I didn't find the studio version, so here's live one from 2007~

Spoiler:
Kesäkaverit - Summer pals (live)

Jopa on laiska, kepeämpi päivä,
Today's this kind of lazier, lighter day
sellainen, kun ei viitsi edes viheltää
That kind of day when you don't bother even whistling
Jo pari iltaa vahingossa alla:
And by now couple of nights the parties
Lostarin kantisjuhlat pääsivät venymään.
in the Lostari have been longer than they should have been

Meri auringossa väreilee,
The sea ripples in the sun
kiireettömät ohi kävelee,
Those with no hurry walk by
ja laiturin nokassa syntynyt kohua:
And down by the quay, there's some gossip going on
on pari dokua veneessä luvatta.
Couple of drunk ones are in the boat with no permission

Ja minä pyydän, olen pahan alku:
And I ask, I'm the one who gets things rolling:
tuokaa suuri pullo halvinta mitä vaan
"Bring me a big bottle, whatever it is"
Antony kieltäytyy, mut se on ainut,
Antony refuses, but he's the only that
jonka täytyy aikaisin mennä tutimaan.
Need to go to sleep early

Monta kivaa kesäkaverii,
Many nice summer pals
koluttu miljoona terassii,
We have visited millions of beer gardens
ja kokeiltu hupina, montako fisua
And just tried, how many fishes y' can
kannattaa kumota yhdessä illassa.
do during single night

Tulee pari hyvää ideaa:
We got some good ideas:
nyt jos aamuun asti dokataan,
If we just be drunk 'til tomorrow
niin noin puoli seiskalta,
after about half past seven
kun aukee stadikka,
The Stadium will open
me ollaan uimassa bokserit jalassa
We would go swimming with boxers on!

refrain:
En muista teidän sukunimiä,
I don't remember your surnames
voiko silloin sanoa "ystävä"?
Can you still say "friend"?
Sinä olet sellainen,
You are just like that
ole siinä lähellä, ota mua kädestä,
Be close to me and take my hand
sinä ymmärrät minua
You understand me

On kuivin heinäkuu vuoden -55 jälkeen.
It is the driest July since year -55

Kun uinnin jälkeen tulee kova nälkä,
After swimming we get really hungry
me päätämme mennä taksilla hotelliin,
We decide to take a taxi to hotel
ja Hiltonissa väki paheksuu
And in Hilton all the people are angry
et noi on pelti kiinni
That "those are so drunken that they don't even notice it"
Höh. Otan pekonii
"Huh? I take bacon"

Monta uutta kesäkaverii,
Many nice new summer pals
tällaista on ehkä olla nuori:
Maybe this is the meaning of being young
kerrankin unohtaa kaikki se vakava,
Just once forget all those bad things
mitä on huomenna ja vittu ikinä.
What will come tomorrow and **** ever

refrain

On kuivin heinäkuu vuoden -55 jälkeen.
It is the driest July since year -55

Punaviini pilaa puseron,
Red wine ruins my shirt
mennään kaupungille,
Let's go to the city
ostan uuden paidan jostain.
I'll buy a new one somewhere
Älä päästä irti, pidä kii.
Don't let go off me, just hold me
Tällaista on ehkä olla nuori -
Maybe this is the meaning of being young
ilman huolta
Without worries
Ota kädestä
Take my hand

refrain

On kuivin heinäkuu vuoden -55 jälkeen,
It is the driest July since year -55
laulamme päivät halki.
We just sing and sing
Muistanko kaiken myöhemmin?
Will I remember this all later?

Dolphin / Del'fin

Quote:
Andrey Vyacheslavovich Lysikov (born September 29, 1971, Moscow) is a Russian poet and musician, known by his stage name Dolphin (or Дельфин). He won the award of best artist at the 2004 MTV Russian Music Awards. He also played at the Live 8 Russia concert.

Dolphin began his solo-career in 1996 after his initial departure from the well-known Russian pop-hip-hop trio MalMalchishnik. On the first two albums, 1997’s Не в фокусе (‘Out Of Focus’) and 1999’s Глубина резкости (‘Depth Of Field’) he presents a kind of experimental hip-hop, being close to his previous band’s music, but, not alike that, the prevailing mood is depressive as the lyrics are dedicated to drugs and personal self-release troubles. Nonetheless, on more recent stuff rap fades into background while more clean vocals, guitars and synths are brought to the forefront.

Dolphin’s passion for experimentalism has been providing a great success for himself. His music is unpredictable, innovative and just wonderfully done, and on his late full-length Звезда (‘The Star’) he undeniably delivers.
I think he is one the best artists in Russia. I don't have his albums and I've never listened them entirely, but I like some of his songs and I want to show his videos here.

Dolphin - Spring (2004)
Spoiler:

We'll meet again without fail.
Do you hear me? I'm sorry
To the place I'm going to, there is spring
I know you can find me
Don't stay alone.

I love this video so much! There are scenes from 1980 Moscow Olympic games. You can find here lovely 1980 Olympic Mischka, lots of people cried when it was released to the sky at the ending ceremony.

Dolphin - Radiowave (2000)
Spoiler:

Unfortunately I didn't find English translation to this song ~.~ but lyrics are very beautiful and smart.

Dolphin - Love (1999)

Fefe Dobson
Quote:
Felicia Lily "Fefe" Dobson (born February 28, 1985) is a Canadian singer-songwriter and model. Her self-titled debut album earned her two Juno Award nominations.

She is writing songs with Selena Gomez & The Scene, Suzie McNeil, Skylar Grey and more and is working on a new single that should be out in late June 2011 before her new album that will arrive in early January (2012).
Genre: Pop, Rock
Language: English
Main Studio Albums: Fefe Dobson (2003), Joy (2010)

I've never really been much of a Fefe fan until recently. At first I thought she was just like all the other Canadian pop acts but now I see that she puts a lot more effort into her music than most would think.

Here's her first single from her latest album, Joy.

If I were you, I'd pick Jens Lekman, Kent, Håkan Hellström, Veronica Maggio, Lykke Li...there are so many, but they're fantastic. Kent may have been played A LOT on the radio back in the day, but they're one of my all time favorite bands. Listening to the 'Du & Jag Döden' album makes me tear up, every time I listen to it

well, I haven't yet listened to all the music here, but I'm def going to. the thread is a great idea

from me... I wanted to introduce you to one of the most famous Polish rock bands - Budka Suflera (the translation would be the Prompt Corner xD)

Budka Suflera is a Polish rock band which was started in 1969 in Lublin by Krzysztof Cugowski, and, after disbanding soon thereafter, resurrected by Cugowski and Romuald Lipko in 1974 and active to this day. They are perhaps best known for their rock ballads, such as "Jolka Jolka" and "Za ostatni grosz" that are often quoted as some of the best songs of Polish rock.

well, my Mum always says that they form the most ugly music band of Poland xDDD

personally my favorite song form them is Martwe Morze (The Dead Sea)

Translation (rough, by me):
Spoiler:

Where are you flowing to, brother?
Where are you rushing?
What's the point of slowly killing yourself?
You're just standing in one
Point, aren't you?
Only time passes by

So you're fading in one spot,
Burning yourself
Like a desert's rock in a burning sun
Any move is
Just a pretence
Only time goes by

* It's your fate
It's a frame stopped in a run
The dead sea surrounds us
And there's no hope for the wind

World spins around like a swarm
This fever never ends
World whirls, eats its own tail
Only time passes by

* repeat

** The dead sea surrounds us
And there's no hope for the wind

** repeat

If among our star roads
Among infinite routes
Exists one eternal God
Then his name is: Time

* repeat
** repeat
** repeat

and another one... called Nowa Wieża Babel (The New Tower of Babel)

Translation (rough, by me):
Spoiler:

The world around us is getting smaller and smaller
We can touch the continents with our hands
The airplanes like the ones in our childhood's stories
Above our heads are crossing the sky faster and faster

People are still wandering in a big, loud herd
Throughout the confusion of languages you can hear one voice
The second, bigger Tower of Babel was built
Who remembers the fate of the first?

The world is getting smaller and smaller like a pierced balloon
And the human is getting smaller along with it
Frightened with how small he is
He's getting lonelier and lonelier in this crowd

* Unconscious runaways through this empty road
As if there was something somewhere behind the corner
And these poems wrote for nobody,
And those canvas full of nostalgic spots

** The Tower of Babel,
Beautiful, tho inhuman land,
Further and further,
Is it progress? Is it a mistake?
Further and further,
It's getting harder and harder to escape

* repeat
** repeat

hope you like these ballads. I'm in love with them since I was a little child and couldn't really understand the lyrics...

I've wanted to do this for soooo long. Time to introduce my favorite band, Stella!

Stella

Members: From left to right in the picture: Tuomas, Maria, Heikki, Matti, Janne
Maria Tahvanainen (formerly known as Maria Kiiskilä) (Vocals)
Heikki Marttila (Guitar, background vocals, composition)
Janne Sivonen (Guitar, synthesizer, composition, lyrics)
Tuomas Tahvanainen (Bass)
Matti Virkkunen (Drums)
Years active: 2002-present
Genre: Pop-rock, rock, alternative
Language: Finnish
Studio albums:
Kuuntelija (The Listener, 2004)
Pelkääjän paikalla (On the front seat [in a car]; this album title is a hard one to translate because Pelkääjä can also be translated as "a person who fears [something]", 2006)
Löytäjä saa pitää (Who finds can keep [it], 2008)
Jokin on muutumassa (Something is about to change, 2011)

A brief history & introduction: Stella was formed in Joensuu in 2002 when the vocalist Maria Kiiskilä was tricked into the band. The band made a record contract with Sony Music in 2003 and consequently, released the first album Kuuntelija in 2004. At first, the band failed to grab much attention, but when Katri Ylander, a contestant in Idols, sang their song Piste on the show, Stella rose quickly to public attention and the original song became a smashing hit. Ever since, Stella has been gaining popularity while touring around the country. Their first three studio albums have all been certified gold records and have sold over 60 000 copies so far. In 2011, they released their long-awaited 4th studio album Jokin on muuttumassa, which landed on the fifth spot on the Finnish album chart and received high praise from critics all over.

Stella is best known for their very melancholic songs and lyrics and Maria's voice, which is often described as "nasal but beautiful". Personally, I love Stella for their unique sound and lyrics, which have precisely the right balance between straightforward and vague, are easy to get and are touchingly beautiful. The topics tend to be dark-natured: suicide, fearing a friend's death, rape, domestic violence...

If you're interested in how they sound, Stella has been described as "Finland's most Swedish band" and been compared to Kent. But it would probably be better to hear for yourselves, right? I'll present a couple of my favorites.

Here's Kultasiipi (Goldenwing) from their second studio album. This is probably the epitome of Stella's darkness and melancholy.

Spoiler:
Stella - Kultasiipi

Mulla ei oo ketään muuta, jolta voisin pyytää
apua, kun yö vaanii, iskee veistä, antaa selkään
I have no one else to ask
for help when the night stalks me, stabs me, beats me

Toivot, etten menisi, kun siivet kantaa
vaan jäisin vielä luoksesi sun kotiluolaan
Aamulla vaan uskoa koetellaan
You hope I won't go when my wings carry
but instead I'd still stay with you in your cave
In the morning, faith is tested

Nyt sä tahdot tietää, tietää kestääkö tää
tietää, että viereesi jään
Nyt sä tahdot tietää, tietää kestääkö tää
tietää, että viereesi jään
Now you want to know, know if this will last
know that I'll stay by you
Now you want to know, know if this will last
know that I'll stay by you

Toista yötä vuokseni valvot, harsotat mun haavat
Olen hädin tuskin tajuissani, yksin huolta kannat
You're awake for the second night for me, dressing my wounds
I'm barely conscious, you're worrying alone

Pohdit itseksesi ja oot epävarma
ei laukku pysy pakattuna sattumalta
Kuinka tän käy, lennänkö luotasi pois?
You ponder by yourself, uncertain
The bag doesn't remain packed by chance
What will happen to this, will I fly away from you?

Nyt sä tahdot tietää, tietää kestääkö tää
tietää, että viereesi jään
Nyt sä tahdot tietää, tietää kestääkö tää
tietää, että viereesi jään
Now you want to know, know if this will last
know that I'll stay by you
Now you want to know, know if this will last
know that I'll stay by you

Pakatut laukut oven vieressä, kuinka tän käy?
Ootko vain vieras mun elämässä? Kuinka meidän käy?
Packed bags by the door, what will happen to this?
Are you only a visitor in my life? What will happen to us?

Mulla ei oo ketään muuta, jolta voisin pyytää
apua, kun yö vaanii, iskee veistä, antaa selkään
I have no one else to ask
for help when the night stalks me, stabs me, beats me

Next, some newer material: Kesän heinä on hiljaa hetken (Summer hay is silent for a moment) from their newest album, Jokin on muuttumassa. This song has been widely praised for its lyrics and its progressive rock influences.

Spoiler:
Stella - Kesän heinä on hiljaa hetken

Vanhan lasikuistin pöydän ääressä hälinää
Kuulen tutun vitsin, katson teitä ja väsyttää
Noise at the table on the old glass veranda
I hear a familiar joke, take a look at you all and feel tired

Ruuasta ja töistä puhutaan
ketkä kaikki lapsen pian saa
We talk about food and work
who all will be having a baby soon

Kesän heinä on hiljaa hetken, taivas pilvet kerää
Puut ja eläimet myrskyä ennen pysähtyy
Mietin miksi nyt istun täällä, kenen vuoksi enää?
Jokin selvästi muuttuu meissä ja luopuu
Summer hay is silent for a moment, the sky gathers clouds
Trees and animals stop before the storm
I wonder why I'm sitting here now, for who?
Something is clearly changing and giving up in us

Aivan samat paikat niin kuin kaikkina kesinä
Ei jalat yllä maahan kuuluu ukkosen jylinä
The exact same places as every summer
My feet aren't touching ground, I hear the rumble of thunder

Reisi vasten toista jutellaan
Toivon että sähköt katkeaa
We talk, pressed thigh-to-thigh
I wish the electricity would go out

Kesän heinä on hiljaa hetken, taivas pilvet kerää
Puut ja eläimet myrskyä ennen pysähtyy
Mietin miksi nyt istun täällä, kenen vuoksi enää?
Jokin selvästi muuttuu meissä ja luopuu
Summer hay is silent for a moment, the sky gathers clouds
Trees and animals stop before the storm
I wonder why I'm sitting here now, for who?
Something is clearly changing and giving up in us

Kiitän, nousen, huoneen lamput särisee
Saappaanjäljet painuu ruohoon
I thank, I rise, the lamps in the room flicker
Footprints are pressed in the grass

Katson kauempaa, te mahdutte sormenpään taakse
Voin ruudut peittää kokonaan
Katson kauempaa, te mahdutte sormenpään taakse
I watch from farther away, you all fit behind a fingertip
I can cover the screens completely
I watch from farther away, you all fit behind a fingertip

Kiitän, nousen, huoneen lamput särisee
Saappaanjäljet painuu ruohoon
I thank, I rise, the lamps in the room flicker
Footprints are pressed in the grass

I love this group, been following them for years now. They don't rerease a lot of music, but when they do it's always brilliant. I like their newest stuff best though, from 2005-ish and up.

I'm still not tired of their last single.

It's annoying how often they switch members though. xD

Haha I have been thinking about this post a lot, I already had Veronica Maggio and Lykke Li in my mind before I read your comment I really like their latest albums! And Kent are like... legends? haha But I have my Kent periods, and right now isn't one :/ But I totally had one when they released their latest album haha

But yeah, let's introduce some Swedish music here!!

First of all, I won't make this post as fancy looking as all the other with pictures and stuff, because I'm too lazy to do so

I have actually only been listening to Swedish music for like the three, four past years, because I reaaaally disliked everything I heard on the radio before that, but I got a friend who introduced me to so much and I'm really amazed how much great music we actually have, but that isn't played as much on the radio as the bad music from Melodifestivalen and Eurovision (I hope I won't offend anyone )

I won't write entire biographies so if you get interested you probably can find them on Wikipedia

I will start with the obvious, Robyn.

She has been around since like forever, I think she debuted when she was 15, and now she's 30-something. I never liked her when I was a kid, but my friend told me to listen to her album "Robyn" which was amazing (check "With every heartbeat" on Youtube), and her latest release, "Body talk" which she released last year was really good. She released the album as three mini albums and then one 15 track album with the best songs! If you like what your hear, just check it out

This is Dancing on my own, which probably is one the most popular songs in Sweden last year-now

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CcNo07Xp8aQ

And if you like her, check out her music video for "Indestructible"! I love that song, and the video is good!

I haven't seen her live yet, but from what I have heard, she's amazing live.

The next artist I'll introduce is Lykke Li!

She is a popular indie artist, and has been around the past couple of years. She's very interesting and I really like her music! Don't know what to write about her, just watch this video of "I Follow rivers", because I think the song is great and the video is really good

Seriously, it's like perfection haha.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vZYbEL06lEU

Check her out if you like it

The third one I'll introduce sings in Swedish, and is called Veronica Maggio! She has released three albums, the latest just a little while ago, and she's just getting better and better with every release (can't stand most tracks on her first album though, but really like the second and third^^).

She's half Italian and has always been famous for having fun/interesting lyrics, and this song I will post here is interesting ineed it can be interpreted in two ways, number one is that she's trying to reach her beloved one even though it's very hard, and the other interpretation has a more sexual meaning and can be interpreted as if the song is about an orgasm (if I'm allowed to use a word like that on this forum...). She really plays with the lyrics though, which she does in almost all of her songs. And she's very good live, saw here last summer

It's a nice song though and it's really popular in Sweden right now And the video is quite interesting!

Enjoy!

The next artist I will introduce is the electronic indie duo, The Knife!

This duo is made of the siblings Karin and Olof Dreijer, and they make the most amazing electronic music together. They have a very interesting concept and image and almost never appeares in interviews, and when they do they always wear masks and disort their voices

Their most famous song is probably "Heartbeats", so check it on youtube. There is an amazing live version of it.

This is the song "Marble House". It's good, but not their best, but it has an interesting video haha. I was going to post the video for their song "Silent Shout", but I can't find it on Youtube! Totally sad.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-WhQ5TiBHVk

And Karin has a solo project called Fever ray, where she released an album with the same name like two years ago, and it's in my opinion one of the best albums of all time

Here is "When I grow up", it's really good!! Seriously, watch this!!!!!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4F-CpE73o2M

This is getting long, but if you like the Swedish music I posted here and want more, check out "Anna Ternheim (the song "What have I done"), Miss Li (really fun live), Kent (probably THE most famous band in Sweden), Maia Hirasawa (half Swedish, half Japanese girl who just released her first album here in Japan ), Oskar Linnros (very popular last year), Jenny Wilson (released a GREAT album called "Motherhood"), Laleh (does a lot of good music), and probably a lot of other artists that I have forgotten!!

Hope you enjoy, and don't only listen to the songs from Melodifestivalen! haha

^^

*Edit*

I totally failed with the Youtube links, sorry about that and please forgive me!!!
