I also wouldn't worry too much about a disbanding, as somebody said avex likes best albums after three albums (and this is their fifth). Standard contracts seem to be 3 albums (including a best of) so unless this is a five album contract...well, even then, avex has a habit of holding on to "mediocre" acts for a long time until they themselves pretty much want to quit/retire. (And even then mediocre is a stretch, top 20 still isn't bad at all in the realm of the world.) For all we know they might pull in pretty good live revenue.

I wouldn't say GND's live revenue is that good. Their concerts are in extremely small arena's and they haven't released a single DVD of their concerts that wasn't combined with their albums.

Girl Next Door just need to get back to the Infinity/Freedom sound as that really worked for them.

Why does avex have to be so cheeeap? Would it really be such a chore for them to put at least some of the secondary a-sides on the collection album? I know I would be much more motivated to buy it if it contained gems like Shiawase no Jouken and Hoshizora Keikaku and not just all the things they absolutely have to put there for the sake of calling it "complete".

That said, I might still buy it one day, should I get the money somewhere. It's not like the tracklist is bad the way it is (Jounetsu no Daishou, Infinity, Orion, Destiny's Star and the recent singles all on the same disc? Yes, please), but it could be better.

yeah I agree with what you said . Their Single Collection doesn't sound complete to me in any single way & as I've listed in the previous page , here're the A-sides which're not included
  1. Shiawase no Jouken
  2. ESCAPE
  3. FRIENDSHIP
  4. Wait for you
  5. Kaze no Capsule
  6. Shiawase no Hakari
  7. Hoshizora Keikaku

It's very wasted if you ask me , especially since already Wait for you , Shiawase no Hakari & Hoshizora Keikaku weren't included in their studio albums & then this happen again

Somehow I'm not motivated to get Single Collection just to hear an updated remix for Guzen no Kakuritsu :x & the cover artwork is already not helping either ._.

well, there are sleeve cases for the first press editions, so there will be the alternate covers underneath. However, I think the promo picture is even bad.

Blah, this release seems so strange.

I don't think they're disbanding, but I think Avex has completely given up on them.

I really LOVE their music! I mean, it's really nice feel good music and it always makes me happy when I'm done, but I hate how AVEX treats this band.

Chisa-chan is really talented in my eyes. She can sing and she can dance. I think this band has much more potential than everybody gives them credit for, they just need a chance to prove themselves, but AVEX obviously doesn't think that way.

The covers for the "'Single Collection" are ugly, ugly, ugly! I mean, the pic itself looks great, but the pink and yellow backgrounds look wrong and don't even get me started on the font covering all of the cover!

Whoever came up with those covers apparently wasn't in their right mind. Pink and yellow with a monochrome picture of the group? Eeeew. And that text, who the hell thought it would be a great idea to have it partly cover their faces? And why exactly do they need the thumbnail-sized single covers on there? This is just all kinds of wrong.

At least the promo pic is nice... except for the godawful yellow background. Whyyyyy.

Maybe it was the same person who came up with the covers for Tohoshinki's last album "TONE", because they have the same ugly concept!

Considering that I've been their fan from the very beginning til now , to see avex giving up on them slowly bit by bit , it's very saddening to say the least ;_;

you can't put all the blame on avex , it's not as though they didn't spend a lot of promo if not a fortune on gnd :x

You just take a look at their PVs from their 1st 2 albums & their debut album had promo tie in's for every single song & that includes even the interludes

it's easy to put all the blame to avex but the thing that backfired was that I feel they overpromoted gnd in their early days & at that time I feel their songs were OK but not great

It's only much later on they released some of their best material to date & Destination was really fantastic but sadly as their peak period for their stuff goes up , the budget for their PVs goes down ._.

^ And who is to blame for it if not AVEX?

They are the ones who manage GND. They are the ones who employ songwriters to write their songs and directors who shoot their PVs.
It's also AVEX who decides which group/singers get promoted a lot and which don't. And if they overpromote a group, then it's also their fault.

So I don't really see how I cannot blame AVEX!

yeah but putting all the blame on avex doesn't seem to be an illogical reason . It's not as though they never tried to promote gnd when they 1st debuted in 2008

When I became their fan in the very beginning from their debut single Guuzen no Kakuritsu til now , avex really pushed them a lot . They were on a lot of major TV variety shows (HEYx3 , MUSIC STATION & even scored an invitation to perform at Kouhaku) & promo was really over the top

I think it all boils down to the way the public receive their music as well . It's no point having all the top of the line promo in the world but if the public doesn't buy the type of music you release , then it defeats the whole purpose of everything

I suspect avex already knew the guys & girl were not as profitable as they thought they might be , that's why from Freedom onwards , their budget for everything has been scaled down in a very drastic manner & they rather use their allocated resources to other avex artistes that will bring in more financial returns for the company :x

^ I never said that I put all the blame on AVEX. Of course it's important how people receive their music, but when I look at how much their sales have declined over the years, I think that AVEX should have interfered much earlier.

Today I went to bookoff and scored both NEXT FUTURE and Destination for 750 yen each. For newer albums like these (especially Destination) that's really ridiculously cheap. And it was all the copies they had of them that were that much, not just a couple to imply physical faults or something. It seemed like they had so many copies of these albums (that people resold to Bookoff) that they're desperate to get rid of them. =\

I've also been their fan from the beginning.

On my Tower Record point card, the first time I used it was on September 9th, 2008, which is the day I bought their debut single.

One of the big reasons I enjoyed their music was the amount of effort put into their videos and photo shoots. I mean, GIRL NEXT DOOR was an amazingly well put together album.

But Avex can't keep spending money on a group that isn't returning a profit. If anything, they had a 2 year contract that had very specific details about their budget and once that contract ended, it's probably much different in terms of how much money they will have spent on them.

I mean, all of their first several videos were shot abroad... LA, Czech Republic, Alaska, NYC...

While I'll still follow them, I seriously have to keep my expectations low...

^ My first GND-song was "Drive Away". I randomly found it on "YouTube" and immediately fell in love with it!

I also don't like their recent stuff as much as their older songs, but some of their new songs are quite nice too!

My favourite recent song from them is "Twitter ~ silent scream ~"! EVERYTHING about this song/PV is perfect!
I can't understand why the sales were so bad!
