Just going by sales, the general public does not care...

If people didn't care for ayu, then she would have approx 50 people including staff attending her concerts. And really, it's not only her fans who are supporting her... lol

Let's be honest. Ayu is a Queen and people consider her so. But they dont care about her music anymore. They attend her shows because she has that "amazing live shows" popularity. Something similar happens with Madonna (in a more world wide scale): she had huge hits but people doesnt care THAT much about her recent music. They surely consider Madonna the queen of pop but they dont care about her music.

I know when she was very famous she was everywhere in japan but now it's something like 2 or 3 years that she doesn't have a great exposure ! i don't think she inspire "the disgust"... The time have spent and today solo artists are not so much popular like before but i think she can do well with a best album if avex and Ayu use a good promotion !

Why Namie does well today? She uses the strategy of silent and when she realises something everybody is excited etc...She use the good promotion, look at the painting in Tokyo for bring attention to her ...

I have the feeling that Ayu was just a cash cow for avex and now she is not that big they totaly throw over ! it's sad lol

TBH even though Namie is more popular I've seen Ayu in more places around Tokyo than Namie. Regardless of that Amuro is currently in, while Ayu sadly isn't. There doesn't really have to be a reason. It's the way things are. Considering Amuro is in, people will offer her to do CMs and stuff like that, which means she'll get more chances for some media exposure.

Obviously Ayu still appeals to her fans which is a good thing, but over-exposing her when people are all like "You listen to Ayu? Why? Nobody listens to her anymore..." will hardly do her much good.

Avex is a huge company, as it is with every company, they're trying to make money and you can't really blame them as they aren't a charity organization.
Ayu will either have a hit and come back or not...no promo can really help her much because every Japanese person knows who she is.

I don't think that anyone is so stupid and bland to follow a celebrity and expect her/him to follow back... And by going what you said, "everyone else" has like 100 random people who wants you to follow back. Let's multiply our twitter followers to the same amount as ayu's. I had approx 200, so 100 of them would be "follow me too" followers. OK that would mean that half of ayu's followers would follow her for the attention (when I compare my followers to the standards you gave). Doesn't seem legit.

Well, they care about her enough to follow her... And it's not like she isn't always twiting like crazy, so, she could easily be annoying to follow if u don't like her...

Ayu for sure reached a level where her sales don't represent her influence... And even if people enjoy some drama regarding her dropping popularity, this path leads her to become a legend, not a has-been. As Heavenly Zerase said, it's not about her new music or her getting a new hit.. People just like her well enough because of her history to watch her concerts and go to her events even if they don't bothered listening to the albums.

I think she's slowly giving up her singer job. like, neglecting some things. I don't know, not happy with her carring out her duties now, to be honest

I'd rather, if she's lost her interest in singing & music, she did explore some new fields, maybe become a TV-entertainer or run some avex stuff
