Official lyrics in booklet say "love like you can't breathe", but it overlaps with "singing yeaaaah oh" in the background if you listen carefully, which may explain why it sounds like sleep or see, combined with Namie's engrish

"Love like you can't sleep" does make sense, especially if it's a new relationship and both people in the relationship are in the 'honey moon' stage, but considering the official says otherwise, I guess we'll just have to go with that.

Though, IMO, it does NOT sound like "love like you can't breathe"

Breathe does make sense also.
She's telling the guy to love someone so much that
Without that person they wouldn't be able to breathe.

Everyone knows is breathe not sleep.
She says love like you can't brea.
Maybe she ran out of breath not on purpose or
Maybe she wanted to empathize breath so she acted like she ran out of breath.

Well, to be technical:
I am currently studying linguistics (it's one of my majors), and the sound she makes after "love like you can't' does not sound a voiced bilabial stop (the sound [b]). It sounds more like a voiceless alveolar fricative (the sound [s]). All the sounds I had to analyze last term...ugh.
However, that's thinking more about the situation than necessary. It's still a kick ass song, regardless of what Namie says.

I always thought "love like you can't sleep" made perfect sense. Like you love someone so much that you can't sleep because that person is always on your mind, you always want to be with them, etc.

Its not like this is the first time the lyrics said something and Namie sang something completely different. In WOWA, the lyrics say " I can read your mind" but she doesnt say 'read', she says something that isn't even in the english language, 'laize' or something like that. It's the Namie effect; half the reason I listen to her is because of the hilarious engrish.
