![]() Anywho... I prefer reading over-all reviews about artist I don't know from non-fans, but CD/song reviews of an artist I'm a fan of from other fans. I thin one can review whatever they like, if one doesn't like it, just ignore it and go to the next one. Once I Googled reviews about Eminems' song "Just Lose It", and in pretty much every review at some point it said "but he's soooo cute in the video ^^"... And what has that got to do with the song? But video-reviews are nice, I get to see people's real reactins and expressions and that's loads of fun

I have an update from the girl that is doing these video reviews..
apparently her computer is having some issues with the video card and she cant edit the video... dont know the full details, but as soon as she gets some new info I think she will post a new video on her youtube page. I will say that I showed the comments to her and she is going to take into account some of the things that people said, but most of all she is just doing this for fun and doesnt really feel the need to go into great detail about much of it because she is just having a fun time with it. she thanks people for the great reviews. |

After reading the comments in this thread I can't help but think of a line from the movie Music and Lyrics. Paraphrased, the line was something like "The beat of a song is like when you see someone you find attractive from across the room, the initial attraction. But, the lyrics are getting to know the person, the emotional attraction."
I also think of my dislike of the song Eyes, Smoke, Magic. I think the lyrics are super interesting, but the song is so bad I just applaud Ayu's lyrical talent, but question her decision to approve the song and never ever listen to it

I don't understand Japanese either. Never have, doubt that I ever will fully understand it. I was drawn to Ayu because I could just feel the emotion in her voice when she was singing. To me, at first, it wasn't about the lyrics. I was just SO drawn to her voice in the beginning. So that later on, the lyrics were definitely a bonus. Even now, I either won't know/won't remember certain lyrics to certain songs. But there's definitely all kinds of emotions being conveyed through her music and I didn't need to hear the lyrics to know how she was feeling. I just knew.

That melody/lyric metaphor is really interesting! But I disagree with what the movie. I am 95% a music person and 5% a lyric person. I love Ayu's lyrics but I don't listen to her music for her lyrics (even though I can understand them on repeated listen as I'm taking Japanese and I'm 2nd year yada yada). I listen to them for their tones. For who they are. I think that miso is the body and flesh, as well as the personality. The lyrics are the spine, keeps it in check (ie keeps it a song and not an instrumental piece.) the lyrics are vital, as per my metaphor, but this is just me. Some of Ayu's songs bring me to tears (M, SURREAL, momentum) but some do that just by their music (Dearest). And I've been listening to dearest for the past 4 years an I could care less about the lyrics. Ayu's emotion and the arrangement are just godly. If anything, I like how the singer sings the lyrics and how they flow with the arrangement. So with that, I guess lyrics are very important. Now I wanna watch that movie. It's got me thinking again... |
