I just got into Yellow Card the other day when I heard "Ocean Avenue" on the radio. I used to listen almost exclusively to punk/ska/emo and stuff like that a long time ago, but hearing this song made me realize I still like that kind of music.

Oh, and I recommend the group Hellogoodbye. They're amazing.

Pwn.

BTW, it definitely aint real punk, but real punk didnt die out in the 80s either.

Yeah, it's pop-punk.

I love me some emo and indie rock.

isn't the name "Something Corporate" self-descriptive?

Thursday is pretty overrated in my opinion. They might have coined "screamo" but they definitely aren't the masters at it, by far.

Thursday is pretty underrated in my opinion. They have coined "screamo" but they're still not regarded as the masters at it, by some, for no particular reason, since they kick a whole lot of butt, and make frikkin good music while they're at it, too.

They're overrated, though, in my opinion. When War All The Time came out everyone was raving how wonderful they were, how wonderful the vocals were, how wonderful the lyrics were.. To me, it's all just mediocre. They're not incredibly unique or wonderful, though one or two of their songs are okay, like Jet Black New Year. I could care less about the 'screamo' label, because I still don't think they're even close or compare to some of the screamo bands I listen to who could kick their ass anytime. Maybe the reason they aren't regarded as the masters of it is because.. well, they AREN'T. x_x

Well, as far as I'm concerned, they're not overrated, since here, that's Holland, which is where I am, that means residing, in this country, this place, Thursday hasn't even been rated yet, let alone overrated. That, of course, means they're not underrated either, but they deserve way more attention than they get over here. I personally find the music utterly brilliant, just as the vocals. I don't really bother with the lyrics though, which I never do in general. They aren't really special anyways; what's up with a line like 'Someone call the headnurse / she is coming to the capitol' anyway? Something like this doesn't really fit the music, but well. The thing I appreciate about them is how they aren't really whiney like a lot of the newer bands.

We mustn't forget the bands that influenced them though. I think a lot of dues should be paid to bands such as Embrace (Ian McKaye), Texas Is The Reason, Fugazi, Snapcase, At The Drive-In, and even Deftones. They all influenced the sound Thursday produces. Yet they have some kind of individuality to them I can't really put a finger on, but then again, it's one of their strong points. I really think they are something different.

By the way, what other 'screamo' bands are you implying? (just curious)

On an interesting sidenote, the name 'screamo' has been used to label grindcore-like bands as well, like Skit System. Quite something different than Thursday, I must say!

Oh, have you ever heard something by Envy (especially their newer material)? Brilliant band. W00t.
