I think the game just represents the good and bad side inside each person, sometimes good side is overpowering you, sometimes the bad one but neither actually wins, even if eg your bad side seems to be winning at the moment it doesn't eliminate the good one completely.

I kinda agree with your thoughts, that could be the reason why we don't see the "last stand" between the white & the black queen.
