^Secret (the song) and GUILTY were pretty depressing...but pretty tame compared to before. I agree, she should make more depressing songs.

It's funny people asking for more Next Level, AHS reception to it was so bad it looked like the apocalypse had started and we all were going to die.

Everyone hated NEXT LEVEL, then Rock'n'Roll Circus came out. Everyone hated that and loved NEXT LEVEL.
Then Love songs came out. Then everyone hated that and loved Rock'n'Roll Circus.
Then FIVE came out. Then everyone hated that and loved Love songs.

This is the cycle of AHS fans. Most of us dislike an album at first, but then it grows on us when we realize how great it is after a few listens.

Nops, it wasn't this simple during Next Level... I can't really think of a worst received album over here, not even Party Queen.

Have you guys noticed that "Most users ever online was 542, 24th June 2009 at 04:50 PM" - usually one would guess that the most visited day was a day where something was released, but I don't think there were any releases around this date? What happened with Ayu around this time that got the forum a visitor record ?

NO! i have always loved Love songs, lol... it was the reason why I activity came back into the fandom,.

I hate to think that I'll have to wait three weeks to get LOVE again...
I'm trying to make light of it by thinking that I can use this time to delve into her old stuff more.

i think it was the covers for sunrise/sunset ~love is all~ that were revealed and everyone had disgusted/negative opinions about the cover and how kazuyoshi shimomura + ayu's graphic design team did a terrible job

And I still believe NEXT LEVEL received far more hate when it was released... people made it feel like the album was made of recorded farts or something.

I also remember the NEXT LEVEL bashing. Hell, I still don't like that album. Not as much as what some people do though! I think people were a bit unimpressed with Secret and GUILTY, and NEXT LEVEL was kind of the last straw...
Or at least that's the impression I received.
No other release had that reception after NEXT LEVEL. I'm not sure if it was because fans felt that Ayu had lifted her game with RnR/Love songs/FIVE/Party Queen/LOVE again, or that they had expected a decline in her music quality one day.

I'm so glad that Ayu has seemingly come out of that relentless variance period (2008 - 2011), and gone with cohesiveness for LOVE again.

It saddens me how everyone despises ballads and look down at them What's wrong with an album full of ballads? Most artists nowadays release albums full of upbeat songs and no one complains.

Party Queen is my 2nd favorite Ayu's studio album, only behind Love songs... But if you are going for stand alone catchy songs it really isn't a strong album... I love the story she tolds on it, but most of the tracks only work on the context of the album... I can understand why people dislike it.^^
