Knowing each other for longer/since ones' teenage years doesn't mean that you're more compatible or more comfortable with each other as a couple than new lovers. Besides, if I remember correctly, (one of) the reason(s) Ayu gave for their break-up was that they had come to feel for each other more as siblings rather than lovers.
I've also always wondered about Ayu and Tomoya's relationship. I got the impression that Ayu was incredibly busy during most of the years they were together (tours, lots of TV performances, ~3 singles and a new album practically every year, magazines, AyuReady? etc.), and what with Tomoya also being an artist, and in addition to that, Johnny's strict rules about the love lives of their stars, I wonder how much time Ayu and Tomoya actually got to spend together as a proper couple. Even though their relationship lasted a long time, it doesn't mean that it was her most serious relationship.
Though these are just personal speculations, and I can't claim to know anything about how Ayu felt back then or feels right now, or will feel in the future. I'll just have to trust that she knows her own feelings well enough to make the best decisions for her.

I was a bit "lol...again?" when I read the news but I genuinely wish her all the best.

I'm surprised at the comments on the age gap as that wasn't something I noticed when reading the article. 10 years is nothing nowadays.

but seriously lol they seems doing a research and looks so interesting about it, they even showed UCLA's view and also mentioned about Mannie and Abizou (her friend that she talked about in her ameba blog,hes a kabouki actor where they went to the same high school)
