Thus, the agency had no choice but to pull up Girls' Generation's activities as 8 members earlier than planned, and in the midst of while working out when to announce this, Jessica had posted her words early this morning.

The day that I feared finally come. After seeing Super Junior, TVXQ and EXO with their own cases I can only imagine it's not long until the same thing happen to SNSD.

SM never really pays attention on retaining their human resources I guess, and belittles them imo

Girls’ Generation, one of K-pop’s biggest girl groups and a leading driver of the genre’s profile overseas, is no longer a nine-member act.

The group’s agency, SM Entertainment Co., on Tuesday told local media that Jessica, one of the group’s lead vocalists, had been let go from the group due to disagreements over her business activities in fashion.

The agency said that the singer privately announced earlier this year her retirement from the group and later founded her fashion business, Blanc Group, without securing agreement from the agency. The singer, whose last name is Jung, and the remaining members continue to be signed with the agency, it added.

On Tuesday morning on Weibo, the China-based Twitter-like service, Ms. Jung wrote that she had been informed of her exit from the group from the agency and the other eight members. She said she was “devastated” and added that she was pushed out “for no justifiable reason.”

SM Entertainment has a history of public disputes with their artists. Kris, a member of boy band EXO, in May filed a lawsuit against the agency to nullify his contract. In 2009 three of the five members of boy band TVXQ quit the group and sued the company for what they said was unfair terms of their contract. The three singers and the agency in 2012 dropped all legal filings following a court injunction.

The SM Entertainment spokeswoman didn’t answer calls on Tuesday. A spokeswoman for Ms. Jung’s company Blanc declined to comment and didn’t make Ms. Jung available for comment.

Early Tuesday the remaining eight members—Taeyeon, Tiffany, Sooyoung, Sunny, Yoona, Yuri, Seohyun and Hyoyeon—left for Shenzen, China for a fan event, local media reported. Ms. Jung didn’t appear at the airport terminal.

Formed in 2007, Girls’ Generation has become one of K-pop’s best-recognized acts, starting with their hit single “Gee” in 2009. The group gained popularity in other Asian countries but their attempt to crack the U.S. market in 2011 didn’t yield a similar commercial success.

^ I think it's because they don't want Jessica to use SNSD to promote her fashion, and she wants to go to a fashion school in the US (and marry some rich businessman?)
The only way SM would accept Jessica launching her fashion line would probably under very strict rules and the clothes would probably look more like SNSD merchandise than actual high fashion.

Then again SM still managed her individual activities, which got me confused why don't they agree that Sica will be in a hiatus until her business/marriage sort out and then take the next step from there?

Mid - Late 2008: Ex Super Junior Hangeng + desire to pursue solo activities.

Summer 2009: JYJ (Jaejoong, Yoochun, Junsu) + Crebeau cosmetics business.

May 2014: Ex EXO-M leader Kris + desire to pursue acting career.

September 2014: Girl’s Generation Jessica + personal fashion label ‘Blanc Group’.

Moral of the story: SM will cut you if you decide to venture into other options not provided by SM.

Also, I saw a post saying that Sooyoung was initially wanted to release her own line, ON&ON, but it never got realized...

SM is burning this year! dating scandals, exo, red velvet controversy, meh, now SNSD, the main milking cow, is getting a treatment like this? Jessica doesn't deserve this, I wonder if her sister Krystal will leave SM also or what. what about our fav Jung sisters

And it's true... Do you think they will stay as 8 members or will they add a new member? I'm just going to listen to their music all day now...

I'm curious about that too.. How are they gonna perform old songs? What about the choreography? They can't learn new versions of all their dances, and who's gonna sing Jessica's part? I'm gonna be so upset if Tiffany takes over just because of the English.. Jessica has a very unique voice, and nobody in the group can replace her vocals

I'm still in shock. It will most definitely be interesting to see how Girls' Generation moves on from this. What will change? What will stay the same? What will Jessica do now? Will she keep performing? For some reason, I feel like Yuri hinted at something going on earlier this year (I could be very wrong!) but I don't remember the article or interview. Right now, Jessica no longer in the group reminds me of the feeling I had when a favorite band of mine got rid of their singer two years ago in a less than polite manner.

Hello, this is SM Entertainment.
We wish to state our stance on Jessica's weibo post.

This past spring, Jessica had stated that due to her personal reasons she wished to end her activities with snsd after one last album. Despite Jessica's sudden announcement, the company and SNSD members tried hard to bring snsd activities to the best way after long contemplation and efforts.

However, due to the inability to mediate the prioritization of SNSD activities and understanding relations Jessica started her fashion brand, and despite continuous negotiations it became a difficult situation to maintain the team.

Thus, it was inevitable to move up the activities of SNSD as 8 members earlier than expected, and while we were thinking about how to release this news, Jessica herself wrote the weibo post early in the morning.

We plan to continue to support SNSD and Jessica's activities without any change as a management.

^I feel like SM was taking a very premature decision with this. We don't know exactly what happened but it's really ridiculous if you as a management treat your milking cow like this. I can think of many options like making a temporary hiatus for Sica, besides she's one of the main vocal, a pivotal role.
