to add to Impact's post, Shiina Ringo also married, had a child, divorced, and now she's back.

And that person to take over Ayu has yet to appear, and is most unlikely an existing artist that sells great, so it won't be Mika, BoA and most definately not Ayaya as people speculated o_O"

Remember Ayu's singles didn't sell or rank all that well, it was her first album that did well, so whoever the next person will be, I'm sure it'll be a surprise ^^

Composition ability and mystery is important in order to sell well after marriage.

People have both:ringo
People have composition ability:yaida,hikaru
People have mystery:mika,namie
People without two:ayumi,boa,aya,nanase,van,hitomi,momusu

Ayumi's mystery disappeared by Ayu ready.

Many Japanese don't think ayumi can play the instrument.
Ayumi never talk about the composition.
She talks about only the lyrics.
Personally I think she composes "really rough melody"
Many ayumi fan think the arrangement person is important for CREA's songs.

Anyways, I see Ayu this year releasing far fewer items than she has last year (relying a bit on "Best of..." and compilation CDs/DVDs to maintain her popularity), but she'll still release the "standard" full album, about 3 or 4 singles, and a few remix albums, and her live performances will be a bit less (with Arena Tour taking up much of her time for a few months). Around the end of the year, I seem to imagine some big announcement (perhaps a marriage, or something greater) that'll change things completely. In 2005-2006, I think Ayu's popularity may start to decline (not majorly) as she continues releasing fewer items. After that, I'm not too sure, but I'm trying to base this on previous releases and how things are, so I could very well be quite wrong with this!
I must've had a 6th sense about the future.

Like many people here, I also say that if Ayu should decide to retire, then she won't completely disappear. She'll probably pop up from time to time.

that's true. Ayumi does deserve some sort of sabbatical from all that she's done for us...i am eternally greatful (yeah..i spelled it wrong ) but, i would love for ayumi to stay on the scene even if she retires...
