Was Miliyah Kato's "ROMAN" PV inspired by Shiina Ringo's "Gips"?

Seriously the likeness is uncanny.





Even their outfits are the basically the same! My friend says they're inverted hahaha.

What she's said about the ROMAN video:

At this time, I’d started from the idea of wanting to make something with beautiful visuals. I wanted to do something like the music videos made by Hype Williams for hip-hop artists overseas.
The director was understanding of that as well, and using CG only for the reflections on the water’s surface and so on, he shot it exquisitely for me. I was happy that it came out just how I’d envisioned it. This is the MV I like best!

I was a bit thrown when I read this considering she seems to have done the opposite considering this is really influenced by a fellow Japanese artist, not a western artist. I'm a huge fan of Hype Williams. So she's just full of influences from my favorites haha.

I do understand what she means about being inspired by the hip-hop videos. The backdrop does remind me of Missy Elliott's "Work It".

But still the resemblance is so similar! If that source is valid and that's truly what she said i'm just surprised she didn't mention Shiina being an influence.

Even the English lyrics are slightly similar:

Shiina: "I wana be with you"

Miliyah: "I just want to be with you darling"

I just love this because right now Shiina and Miliyah are my everything. And who I listen to 90% of the time.

Which video/song do you guys prefer?

As for video I'm probably bias since Shiina is my favorite J-Pop artist, but I don't love dancing and Shiinas video has no dancing. I know who can not love dancing I have my reasons *cough* traumatized by dance classes in drama school hahahaha

But as for song hands down "ROMAN" it's such a bizarre powerful Synth-pop song (Synth-pop is my favorite music style ever). The intro part after she stops chanting la gives me chills. And the chorus is so passionate.

I do love Gips but nowhere near as much as ROMAN. I love the haunting instrumental during the verses of gips. Especially when she's falling off the couch.
