First of all, i would like to complain to somebody who required for a leak, I mean to someone who thinks "Initially, I will not buy this double album". You know, the leak will affect to sale for sure, i don't think it's good happen if there's a leak released before the date and somebody shows themselves like "Give it to me now, I want it so bad". There are so many ways to support her when her works launched instantly such as online market or if you would like just previews to make decision, there are so many channels as well, not the whole album leaked. you know what I mean and i can't help if you get me wrong.

For the album, I think it's very creative to separate two sides in album form. She can know which directions her fanclub follow now. According to myself, I like when she put western vibe in her music such as Japonesque or Bon Voyage (by the way, i don't like WOML that much), surely I love Outside more than Inside that there are many songs skipped. However, two albums in two styles are cohesive.

INSIDE : she can be effortless with this part, this is what she's good and accurate. I can see how many say this is not progressive, yes, it's like we are listening to her old-innocent albums like Kingdom or Black Cherry that somebody loves but someone like me not. I think this is good Kumish album, many beautiful songs, but for me it's a bit boring and play-saved. The tracks I pick up are Bridget song, Sukideshite, My fun and my Top5 from Kumi of all time "Kimi Omoi"

OUTSIDE : I click on it, experimental Kumi. I like the artists who never step on their same footsteps and dare to change their images such as Christina Aguilera. From the title track to the last, I rarely have to play forward or skip any song. Its weakness is songs are too similar and lack of original as "Hey, I used to hear it from blah blah blah". Nevertheless, it's great album and better than Walk of my life for me, but Japonesque is still the top. I'm obsessed to Ultraviolet, Insane (love at first sight), W Face, Heartless, Wicked girls and Cupcake.


I was hesitant to attend her concert or not for my Osaka trip, but it's clear now

I feel like 2009-2011 Kuu is back vocally! Her voice sounds so much better than 2012-2016! Her dancing skills are also at her best now.

I'm surprised but I actually enjoyed both albums. I won't review them just yet but I'll probably like them better than Bon Voyage and WOML with time. (both of which I hated at first listen but got used to and actually appreciate now)

There are some tracks that I know I probably won't ever stand, like Heartless (I'll pretend this song never existed like CRANK THA BASS. It's that dreadful ugh) and Stand by you (so boring and generic)

Standouts: W FACE, Insane (I hate her nasal voice, but it actually works well here imo), Bassline, Wicked Girls, Cupcake (MY JAM), BRIDGET SONG, Promise you, 好きでして (reminds me of her kawaii persona back then)

Both of them won't be my favorites but they aren't in any way terrible. I have always loved how diverse her albums were so I did find quite exhausting to go through outside for an instance. The songs are all pretty similar in sound.

Leaks are not nice, but they happen and everyone enjoys it.

And, I may be wrong but, since you posted your reviews from the albums, you must have listened to them through the leaks right??

I mean this with a lot of respect for what you mean, because I can and do agree, but I'm going to tear your comment to shreds in one sentence: Online music streaming and individual track sales are killing sales more than piracy and leaks ever could.

The single greatest impact to Ayumi's MIJ selling so poorly was that everyone could get it on AWA and iTunes and other download sites, track by track. So no one had to go buy the whole album for the songs that weren't released as singles. I know a lot of people complain about leaks and the whole MP3 shebang, but we've known for years that any % increase in music streaming or track download services literally translates to a huge fall in traditional sales. If I had my way, you'd have to buy the FULL ALBUM for any of the album tracks, even as a download, and the only albums on streaming services would be 3+ months post-release. But you know corporations... gotta get any dollar they can, even if it ultimately destroys their own business model.

Thank you for sharing, your thought is more careful than mine. Imo, any legal ways that support artist, i think they are all more advantage to artists than illegal ones. Besides, someone consumes albums illegally and praises, they might think it's right but not, however, it's better than do illegal things, comment harshly and think that's right.

@abestfah I agree with you that the fact the leak comes before the release date is bad for the sales but W FACE was released yesterday so this is not the subject. I bought W FACE -outside- and I paid 30,20€ shipping included with 446¥ of discount with my points, but the japanese album prices are crazy, if you buy an album of any UK and USA artist you will pay like 18€ at most, so I understand there are people that can't import japanese albums because of that price, and you know there a things more importants in life to spend money instead of buying japanese cd's or other material things, like eat, buy clothes, clean yourself, have a home, etc.

Not to talk that nobody is forced to buy japanese cd's we are free to buy or not to buy anything. So is good that if you want to download a cd and not want/can't buy it, its ok. The music industry win a lot of money from poor people that are buying their products, so we make them rich and we don't have millions, maybe they must have to give us a 1,000,000$ to us for the fact that we make them rich. The singers are spend they money in luxurious things and mansions to live and we have nothing. They work hard I know it but I think they must win less money for their job. Thinking better the japanese music industry never expected to sell their music outside of japan, so if we the foreigners will not buy any media, goods from them, they will not loose money.

Is like someone tell that is bad to require a leak from an Indian singer because we have to support the artist music when nobody outside India is buying the music sold in India. The only music that is globally on sale in stores is the english lenguague music.
Now is different with itunes but in the past you can't buy jpop on itunes.

So if I buy my copy or not kuu will be rich as hell anyway. And with the money of my copy avex will do more albums for kuu right? That's the purpose because my copy doesn't count in oricon charts since is sended outside of japan...

I illegally downloaded this album, commented "harshly" and that's perfectly right. We are not in the 90s anymore, when one person should buy an album based on 1 or 2 singles, and PRAY that the rest of the songs are of one's taste.
This is how it works now.
Of course, if you trust the quality of your artist's music, and decide to buy an album before listening to it, that's perfectly fine.

W FACE ~ outside ~ has exceeded all my expectation. This album is friggin' fantastic! I've been so into trap style music lately and here my all time fav artist releases entire album in that direction. It's like a dream come true. Seriously. I love all the songs, the only track I wanna skip is Shhh! but that's only cause I've played it too many times already and wanna listen to the new songs. I love how each song on the al has personality & Damn real chorus is pure orgasm. I remember first time I heard WOML I only liked the title track, intro & interlude and it took me long ass time to fall in love with the album. lol Here I already love all the songs after the first play. oh and wtf Cupcake is so short.

~ inside ~ is awesome too. On My Way & Promise you are some of her best ballads. I've also read lyrics translation for On My Way and I love it even more. Kumi's lyrics has been so personal, deep & amazing in her last few albums. Plus I always wanted Kumi to release a ballad album, she pretty much did it with inside - 7 ballads. She literally killed 2 birds with one stone with this double album. Slay Kuueen. oh and I can't wait to hear Yorokobi no Kakera & Stand by you live performances.

I was gonna wait for my copy to arrive but ended up buying these super HQ versions of both albums as per KK Italian FC suggestion. I gotta say they do sound amazing when I listen to them with my headphones, my speakers are crappy so I can't hear all that HQ.

Promise you chorus gave me goosebumps. Her vocals are just brilliant. It's a shame there aren't any more TV performances scheduled.

Morning shows like Mezamashi TV , ZIP! , Asadesu , Sukkiri don't tend to get uploaded online (chances are higher if Johnnys are featured) . At most you have to get people to record the shows specially for you

Sometimes you can find them uploaded online but the quality is normally not that good

So i prefer outside, because it sounds more different than inside songs
