On August 9, Mika Nakashima will release a new cover album titled “ROOTS ~Piano & Voice~”, her second one after 2014’s “Zutto Suki Datta -ALL MY COVERS-“. As the title suggests, the focus will be on piano arrangements of the songs and Nakashima’s distinguished voice.

Unlike “ALL MY COVERS” that features some songs that were released by the singer previously, the covers on “ROOTS” are all new and the roster of the covered artists includes Miyuki Nakajima, Spitz and amazarashi. Incidentially, amazarashi covered Nakashima’s “Boku ga Shinou to Omotta no wa” for her tribute album last year.

Wow! Those covers are simply amazing. I almost regret not byuing this album. Even if I love her music, I am simply not a fan of cover albums and I doubt that Roots album can change it in any way

I echo the same sentiments as you , it's frankly a bit of a shame as ROOTS ~Piano & Voice~ covers are great but unfortunately I'm not familiar with any of the material in the tracklist

These covers might be her best covers. There are here and there some covers I like in her discography but that's the first time that I'm totally charmed by one of them.

It's so tough to pick favorite MIKA covers.

I love every one of her album covers. She has literally never released a studio album with an ugly cover IMO.
I also think RESISTANCE and Oborozukiyo ~Inori have two of her most beautiful covers.
I really like the covers for RELAXIN'.

FILM LOTUS I, III, VII, VIII... are all among my absolute favorites.

All in all, I think MIKA is the absolute best artist at the packaging for her releases. Her covers are almost always worth paying for just for the cover itself. If I could just buy posters of her single and album release covers, I would absolutely do it for every one. So many of them are quite breathtaking.
