Ayu and "eeeeeeeee"s

I think Ayu is a reasonably talented vocalist. Over time, she has become much more versatile. But she has always seemed to have trouble delivering high "eeeeee" notes. Especially on My Story, she keeps hitting those terrible notes that prevent me from turning my volume up too loud. For example, in the choruses of My Name's WOMEN (...kantan ni nakanai shIIIIII) HAPPY ENDING (anata ga inaIIIII) and CAROLS (ShiroIIIIII yuki...)

I really think Ayu should work on singing these notes more gently, or at least stretch out sounds different than "eeee"! I mean, she could do "ooo", "aaaa", any of those other lovely vowels.

It doesn't bother me in my name's WOMEN, but in the others it hurts sometimes. I find it an annoying style, too.

It's just her style.. it personally gave me goosebumps listening to the chorus of CAROLS.

Nod, nod* Ayu hits most of her highest notes with the 'i' sound. I think it's just her style of singing. I kinda like it. Though, sometimes it hurts if the volumes up too loud. I love her 'u' sounds when singing. =^.^=

There was only one song that made me very annoyed by her "iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii" and it was forgiveness. In HAPPY ENDING it is almost annoying for me, there are times I like it there are times I don't. I LOVE the "iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii" in CAROLS and in many of her other songs though.

I think it's the one thing that makes her stand out. Once I hear that 'eeeeeee', whether it's from 'For My Dear...' or 'HAPPY ENDING', I know it's Ayu...

It's annoying sometimes, ESPECIALLY in 'forgiveness'...

I don't think she's a talented artist at all (you see an artists' vocal talent through lives), but she gets the job done well for her own songs on most of her recordings done during her peak.

Even though I love 'No way to say', the 'eeeeeee's during every chorus does get a little grating after a while. o_O'

I have noticed her extended emphasis on "iiii"s as well, and it's ALWAYS annoyed me. First, because iiiiiis are not supposed to be sang the nasaly way she does it.
And second, she should try to concentrate on other vowels like a, o, e, u, which are much purer.

That's great, because I was just listening to HAPPY ENDING and thinking about that when I saw this thread. I love it when things like that happen...

The only time it's deterred me from listening all the way is on "monochrome". I cannot listen to that song through the chorus. Most of the time I turn the volume down or take off my headphones, because the "kanJIIIIru" hurts too much. (Or whatever she's saying on that high note) But that's okay, since that's not really my favorite song anyway. ^^;

Ooooo many interesting responses....I'd have to say that the one song that makes my ears bleed is July 1st. Oftentimes I will skip that song not because I dislike it, but because the chorus is literally painful. It's a shame because I love that last part where she goes "la la la lalala" but I usually can't make it that far, lol...

I think a big part of her problem is making all her high notes go on i. I'm no vocalist but i notice that for most Northa American artists, they do all their high notes on other vowels.

And yes, i do think Ayu is a reasonably talented vocalist ever since i saw Dome Tour! ^_^

True, if they asked me which song ayu should resing better I would choose July 1st. The chorus overkills me and it saddens me because I think the instrumentals of the song are awesome but ayu ruins it with how desperate and noisy she sings the chorus. I have no trouble with her other songs...and hey "monochrome" is an amazing song...nothing in it hurst me ahahah It's among my best ayu songs.

I hate those "iiiiiiiiiiiii"s. One of the reasons why I don't like the song "For my dear" is because she freaking uses them so much. They really grate -.-
